I have a blued Taurus 605 that I want to make stainless. I did a little research and it seems Birchwood blue remover is the way to go. Any experiences with type project and procedure will be appreciated.

How are you going to make a blued gun stainless?

Trying for a stainless look. If possible.

Maybe try nickel plating. That will look like stainless and won't rust like carbon steel.

But don't treat it as if it's stainless because nickel isn't and the gun will rust.

Tiny imperfections in the plating allow water or sweat to penetrate to the steel underneath and the rust shows up as rusty "pinpricks" that keep coming back.

So it's not a project I should take on. It'd be better off taking it to a smith or saving up some cash for a new stainless steel revolver ?

IMO, the amount of money for doing this to a Taurus is not worth it. Sell it and buy a SS gun if that's what you want.

Thanks I'll do that. Thought it was only a 5$ product applied to a gun and a little elbow grease. Only believe 95% of what you read on the internet.

You can take the blue finish off of a gun, and if you polish the gun (properly, mind you), you can probably get a smooth, shiny finish that almost looks like stainless.
However, the environmental protection that the blue finish gives you will be gone, and your gun will be subject to rusting very quickly, unless you keep it well oiled all over. Not the best thing for a gun that you intend to use.

Try some crumpled up aluminum foil and spit. Sounds gross I know, but will take the blueing off slick as a whistle.

Well.....It was a .22 single shot rifle....well .....and, ahem, I was 11 years old and, uh...well I was kinda bored......

I went the other way, I have a stainless Taurus 85 that I didn't like the look of. So with a sandblaster, airbrush and some black Duracoat I soon had a two tone snub nose. Duracoat has a color called "Stainless" if that's what you are looking for.
