45-70 Gov't in Africa
Good day fellow 45-70 owners , I am new to the forum . Thought I would share my gun and my use for my gun in Africa. I live and hunt in Southern Africa and love my 45-70, although I own a lot if big calibers like 375 ’s, 416, and 500NE, the 45-70 is my favourite. I use it for back-up on Leopard, Lion, and buffalo, even have used it on Elephant and believe me it pounded it to the Ground. I use a few different Loads ranging from 343gr peregrine softs and solids @ 2100ft/s, 400gr cutting edge solids@ 1850ft/s, hard cast Lead 400gr @1950 and hard cast Lead 500gr @ 1600ft/s. It is a lovely gun to shoot and it's Quick and nimble.

It's apparent that idiot has never been around livestock! "Ok, Bubba just run at him from the side! Let me hold your beer."

Why do you think they put bulls in a narrow chute, and bull riders get on from the top?

They port those barrels, and the blast wave feels like a slap in the face to bystanders.

The ported barrel model was only available a couple of years. You are right about the blast. I have been next to shooters with them and it's acoustically and physically uncomfortable. I just move or quit if no other bench is available.

I still have a soft spot for big slugs at moderate velocity. My neighbor growing up had a large "Snake" collection and most has 2-4x leupolds on top. They're perfect for box blinds..Actually just bought a Super Redhawk in .44 Mag with the 9.5" barrel. You know it went off, but the recoil is fine for 10-20 shots. One day of effort at the bench yielded 300 grain HDY XTPs at 1300 FPS over 19 grains of Lil'Gun, and I intend to mount a Burris Fastfire 3 on top.
The older I get, the less tolerant I become of butt stocks.

If TAM goes after leopard, I'm gonna be wayyyyy the heck back over there like this
But the guide is supposed to be out front!
I don't really blame you, though; Treacherous beasts from what I've read.
