Anyone hunt Davy Crockett National Forest? I'm thinking of buying an APH to get out in the woods and do some varmint hunting. Then maybe during deer season I can land one. I'm not terribly familar with the area so any help would be appreciated.

I have hunted Angelina but not Crocket.
Driving through some of it looks real good.

I really don't see any sections that I can identify as Davy Crocket NF.

Check it out before you spend the $48.

BIg Slough Wilderness Area near Weches should offer some good opportunities and it's not too terribly far from DFW. Big Slough is large enough to have just about any critter you can legally hunt in East Texas and the deer population is good. I've heard Alabama Creek is good, but can't speak from experience.

A word to the wise, check regs and get the necessary licenses/permits. All USFS lands are pretty regularly patrolled by TPWD Game Wardens and USFS Law Enforcement. I'm just saying the regs are a bit site specific and you could find yourself in violation when you had no idea you were breaking a rule. Roads generally get pretty bad in wet weath also.

Its very dry in the area now. The have done a lotta control burns to clear out the underbush down from where that picture is.
If you go that way stop in Radchiff Texas. The just have one store Lake Side grocery On the front wall of the store by the freezer you will see pics of some of the deer that were shoot up there this past season. We are now getting a few wild hogs so watch out. Last week they were rooting by the house and by the pond at night.

"Ratcliff", Texas..............and yes that area is good. Can get crowded though.
