And I'm 35! Crazy. Its no trophy, but it was the last hunting weekend in January and spikes and does only. Scoped a few beautiful bucks, but had to wait on my spike. He's maybe 80 or 90 pounds. I've never hunted an animal before, amazing rush! I'm also the first hunter in my immediate family.

I got my first deer this year too. I'm 36. So you're not alone.

Got my 1st before either of you were born. We need more coming along. Population on the increase & hunting liscense sales on the decrease.

Well, Im 24 now and also the only first generation hunter in my immediate family (living anyway). I too landed my first buck this season and he might as well been a 30 point because I was proud that I got to taste "the fruits of my labor". I grew up in the suburbs of Dallas/Ft. Worth and never hunted a day in my life till i hit my late teens and wanted to try it. Lemme say there is NOTHING like the rush that comes when you see that deer come into your FOV and line it up in the crosshairs! That rush alone will keep me coming back. Now I just have to get that stupid hunters education out of the way

Congrats on yours as well, and don't let the veteran hunters give ya too hard a time they started somewhere too! I am proud of my "4 point" spike (he had four little bumps on one of the spikes haha)

This is very cool to see hunters killing their first deer! It's just like any other hobby. Once you get the first one, your'e hooked from there on out. Congrats to lawrnk, austinrealtor, and kalipsocs on their first deer.

Lawrnk, It never changes a single bit no matter if it's a buck or doe. Now, the real big rush is going to be in bow hunting being within a few feet of a deer that can hear and smell very very well. But, that's a whole separate set of expenses!

Congrats on your first deer lawrnk! Over the years I have taken quite a few deer, and while I am always excited, it never quite meets with the pride and joy of your first one!!

May you have many more years of enjoyment out of a great sport!!!!

For me, it hasn't changed! I still get that proverbial 'Buck Fever' every time I look down the scope, be it a buck or a doe!

Especially when I'd hunt in MN, sitting out in the cold and waiting (no food bait allowed), then finally seeing one...it was a thrill!

But my 1st will always have a special place in my heart! I was so nervous and was afraid I'd miss the kill zone...started to doubt my scope zero, and all sorts. But once I pulled the trigger, the deer was DRT! (Dead Right There).

Well I'm 58 and went hunting for the first time about 4 years ago. Didn't get to go this year, but here's last years 'catch':


That Rifle I'm holding is older than both of us together; it's a M1917 Remington from WWI!

Yes and no. I got back into serious hunting only 4 years ago (when I was 35). We hunt just south of Doss, NW of Fredericksburg, and the deer there are much like those by Camp Wood. Oddly enough, the lease my Dad had (seemingly forever) where I shot my first deer wasn't far from you - on the east side of the Nueces river in sight of Montell.

Back On Topic: After the first few kills, you know what's coming and you can prepare for it, but the rush is still there. I had to take 3 deer on the closing weekend of the season this year, too. NOTHING came out during bow season, and I got a nice buck on opening weekend of rifle season (http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=29346" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), but it was pitiful from there on out. I got lucky when this one came out, because there was such a short window of opportunity to shoot. I saw horns, and that I had 15 seconds to shoot before he wandered into the trees, never to be seen again, so it wasn't until I walked up on him and saw the big rack that the adrenaline really kicked in!

wow, now what did that thing weigh?

Well, technically the town is barksdale, but now one knows where that is. It's a nice ranch, and just teeming with deer and axis. Most times we go up we see 15 or 20 just mulling around. I got in the stand before daybreak, and counted down the feeders. And Waited. And neither went off. I was really getting upset. After a couple hours, and seeing several massive bucks I couldn't take, a spike and doe sniffed near the feeders, but I couldnt find a clean shot. So we left around 10am. After lunch, everyone wanted to take a nap, but I was dang determined to take a deer. Went back after lunch alone, hung out about an hour, and a doe and spike wandered up to the feeders I set off manually before. I can't wait to go take an axis to starve off my cravings till deer season opens.
