Last that I recall of that issue was that you could carry, but you'd be put through a gauntlet of questions, searches, and other embarrasing public dressing downs that it all hinges on what you are willing to put up with...
But maybe this year things will not be as demeaning...

I can't find the statute at the moment, but I have a pretty good recollection that you CAN'T carry at the state fair.
But I could be wrong. I think we need TXI to weigh in on this one.

You can carry legally at the State Fair of Texas. You need to declare to one of the police officers prior to entry and show your CHL and they should escort you around the metal detectors.

I went last year (packing). I just walked up to and officer and made mention of my CHL and he was very accomidating and walked me around. I have heard strip search stories but I guess that depends on the officer and his personal feeling as to how much of a headache it will be.

Yep some of the stuff was a bit over the top, but I figure they can't really do anything more than what they've done to a few that got rubbed the wrong way...
Hey Frankie...Wanna go to the fair this year??? Strength in numbers???

I carried last year. I had to wait for the metal detector operator to get a LEO and some State Fair guy wrote info from my CHL. Rather annoying. I sent an e-mail the the State Fair with my complaint. I got a reply, but I was pretty much brushed off.

My wife and I both carried at the fair. We did not having any embarrassing moments. We simply told the security at the gate we had CHL permits. He had us step aside. Called a supervisor and about 3-5 minutes a man came up and recorded our name and we went on in. You can carry at the State Fair.

I guess call me a prude, but I'm still miffed by the whole taking names and data on your license down on some sheet of paper...
Who controls that data, and what are the retention and destruction protocols...
I believe its the simplest questions when you ask, that stump people...

I'd like to but I've still got some medical issues to work through from my surgery last month. I've been feeling better the last couple of weeks, but I've still got a long way to go before I'm back to a semblence of normal.
BTW, I was definitely
in fear for my life prior to going into surgery. But I knew it was not reasonable to employ deadly force. (Besides, the hospital was posted with compliant 30.06 signs.)

As has been said, before the detectors you tell then you have a CHL and are carrying. They will escort you around and call some dude on a Glof Cart who will write down your info, then in you go.
Funny thing, my wife and daughter were with me, and THEY both were escorted around also.

Wow! I feel SO left out! I carried at the fair last year and nobody took my name, or searched me, or nothing.
I walked up to the officer at the metal detector, and shared that I was a CHL holder and carrying.
Officer: "OK, let me see your license"
I produced it, he looked at it, then "OK, Ms. Watson, what are you carrying?"
Me: "9mm Glock"
Officer: "Well, all right, I guess that's big enough. Go on in"
Oh, and BTW, the kids still had to go through the metal detector!
