Suspect in custody after good Samaritan is shot dead outside Arlington Walgreens

1.0 The gunman shot a woman who worked at the store.

2.0 When the gunman attempted to drive off, the good Samaritan grabbed a gun from his car and pointed it at the gunman’s car. The gunman then shot the good Samaritan in the head, killing him.

If you don't train, you will die. Very sad.

So many things wrong, sorry the guy paid for his mistakes with his life.

According to this article, the deceased leaves the store, retrieves a gun from his car, then goes back to the killer to make a citizens arrest?

Is the so called Samaritan guy killed "in relationship" of any kind to the shot woman? :headscratch

Unless I am carrying and I calculated that I have to better terminate the situation, I am in no business of entering in a domestic dispute of other. Now, both ex-lovers would live and 1 person is dead. If you pull a handgun, be ready to pull the trigger, or run for your life.

:iagree:

The single most dangerous situation to get involved in is a domestic dispute. If the perp was in his vehicle and was leaving the scene I would not have gotten involved. I would have gotten his license plate number (unless I thought the victim knew him), and would have then immediately grabbed some first aid supplies from the store before calling 911. There were a lot of things that the good Samaritan could have done right then. Approaching the shooter was probably not the best move, IMHO.

I'm a better witness than hero. Once the immediate threat is over, and unless my personal, or my family's safety is not at risk, it is time to do whatever I can to help victims and report to law enforcement. I think there are too many LTC holders who believe they are somehow responsible for law enforcement.
I pray for the families of both victims, and I hope that the LTC holder's death serves as a lesson to others that they are not responsible for trying to stop the BG if they are not personally at risk.

Another good guy who thinks an LTC is a Peace Officer License.

And his wife got to watch him die to protect nobody.

So sad.

Yep! The wife and I have a plan. If something goes down i place myself between her and the threat. She immediately dials 911 and we exfil the area ASAP. If we can't leave we put as much distance between the threat and us as possible. She does not hang up and she does not stop to wait for me!

While his tactics were lacking and ill advised, I respect the guy for being willing to risk himself for another. It's always easy to second guess from behind a keyboard. He paid the ultimate price for his mistakes and there is no sense in piling on and berating the guy.

Well said. And story keeps getting worse. Killer was reportedly a BLM thug with gangster-related Facebook postings. Victim was former Marine with 4 small children. Victim got too close to killer, victim's gun batted away and victim shot in head, all in front of his wife. Thug was in the service at Fort Hood!?!?
IMHO death by firing squad would be appropriate for this thug.

Wonder if there is video from the store that captured what happened?

I read that the perp. turned himself in at a local DPS office. He said he slapped the gun out of the hands of the good samaritan...?....before he shot him.

They interviewed the perp.'s wife who said he should have been at Fort Hood and that she was surprised to see him. Still lots of questions to be answered.

The story as reported is unusual.

I get someone shooting somebody from a car.

I'm trying to picture how someone slaps a gun from someone's hand from a car. The only way I can see that being successful is if the gun was shoved inside the window like it's done in the movies.

In any case, it's another sad reminder never to put your gun within arms' reach of an adversary. My minimum distance is 6 feet (which is still just one lunge away) and I much prefer more if the situation allows. When closer than 10 feet, I advocate using a 2 hand retention position to prevent exactly what happened to this good gentleman.

Edited to "6 feet" - number was accidentally omitted when I edited the sentence.
