The wife and I just had a weird conversation. While I prefer CC, because I don't want to scare or intimidate anyone because of a weapon. My wife just expressed that she wants me to OC for a sense of security and I'm sure there is a pride issue as well. She will be getting her LTC soon.

I am currently doing what I consider discrete carry, t shirt tucked in with a flannel shirt worn over that untucked and unbuttoned, my pistol is visible if your looking for it, or the flannel shirt is caught by the wind and blow back, but to the average person they won't notice it. I figure as the weather warms up there will be more open carry!

CC, since day one, and not going to change.

But for women, I think if an attacker sees the firearm, they/them might be more hesitant, or like I have always said, just be more of a target,(including men) because now they can get the purse and a gun to boot...or if multiple assailants, one to distract and others too act. Criminals aren't stupid, my brother works in fraud and they say they are always one step ahead, I think this is true in every situation.If someone or some people are going to attack an armed individual, they have a plan, so just always be aware of your surroundings, watch for sketchy people, and sit in the corner on the restaurant.

So personally,no, not a fan of OC, if someone thinks they can take firearm away from a trained police office, and guy that 6'3, 240lbs, why wouldn't they try to take one from a female, they will most likely think it's a easier target than a lawman, or bigger guy.

An unusual situation, for sure. One of those "problems you don't mind having".

If my wife asked me to OC, I'd spend some time asking her why.... There's probably an important discussion to be had there that goes beyond how you carry the gun. Maybe in understanding the "why" there's a good solution that makes both of you comfortable.

I conceal carry exactly the same way.
I wear a short sleeve Nike shirt tucked in with an open flannel long sleeve shirt over it. My Glock does become exposed from time to time due to the wind or when I reach for something but very comfortable this time of year. I have had several people notice my Glock but as of yet, I have had no problems. I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth area where it is still cool at this time of year. Come summer, I will switch attire.

This is it. First, buy her flowers and put a hand written note with them. That chick is a-okay. Second, it seems like a good conversation to have about the why. Maybe she has some fears. Maybe she likes you as arm candy. Maybe you are her security blanket and she wants that blanket to visually spread far and wide (well, I guess she already expressed that to some extent). I think if you get to the why, you might be able to address her wants and your preferred method of carry.

If my Sweetheart told me I should open carry, I'd worry it was a demure, feminine version of Rooster Cogburn's "Fill your hand!"

Something similar happened with me. My wife and I talked about OC last week. She asked if I was every going to OC, and explained what I see as the negatives. I tried to turn the tables by asking her how she would feel if we were out in public together and I was OC. After discussing this for a while she said she would prefer that I OC, but that I had to have a better looking gun and holster.

So now, I'm counting my nickels and shopping.

I have been practicing HIGDC (How I got dressed carry), and it is working out pretty well.

Here is how it works. You get up. Get dressed. Put Gun on.

So far with this weather I haven't had what I would call a completely full OC day. With the outlook for DFW being warm this weekend, that day may come quickly.

I live 30 miles west of ft worth and we have had some really nice spring weather in the middle of winter, once it starts to warm up not exactly sure how I'll carry, probably large t shirt over my P-14 1911

No flowers for me. I just give her a box of 22LR and take her to the range! It's cheaper than flowers.
We have had this conversation. As I mentioned earlier, I don't want to scare or intimidate someone. I also believe you are bringing attention to yourself and just asking for trouble and I also want that element of surprise.

Where her opinion is that people would be nicer and show more respect for each other thus detouring any violence. I'm also trying to convince her not to purse carry. 1 purse snatch and you just armed a criminal if not already.

Explain that when you OC you give up a significant tactical advantage.
