Well, just today, one of my friends posted on Facebook that he was robbed at gunpoint at a CEFCO station! And in the last two months, these are the robberies that I have found in my immediate area of Belton/Temple:

A Shell gas station/Taco Bell restaurant robbery [December 11th, 2015] may be the latest in a string of robberies under joint investigation by the Temple and Belton police departments, said Paul Romer, Belton spokesman.
Other robberies involving a black man and a black woman occurred Nov. 17 at the Southwest Travel Center on N.W. HK Dodgen Loop; Nov. 22 at the CEFCO convenience store in the 2000 block of South First Street in Temple; Nov. 22 at Teal’s Exxon on Thornton Lane in Temple; Nov. 22 at Taylor’s Valley CEFCO on Taylor’s Valley Road and Nov. 23 at the Quick Pick Food Park in the 800 block of West Avenue D in Belton.
All of 15 these incidents occurred within 15 minutes of me and some of the stores are places that I have been... Those are 15 more reasons I carry daily!
I carry too and for much the same reasons. Violent crime is occurring all around us and we see it everyday on the news. Faced with a threat I like to think I might be able to defend myself if I'm carrying a weapon. But the weapon is not a guarantee that you will be able to do so. Fact is I was the victim of violent crime once. Years ago I was a Gulf service station dealer and one night we were held up at gunpoint. A very agitated little punk stuck a snub nose revolved in my face and cocked it. Now we all know how easy it is for a cocked revolver to go off. He demanded the money and, naturally we gave it to him. He locked us in the restroom (which I could open from the inside) and ran. The police never caught him. I have often thought what I would have done if I had had a gun at the time. The worst thing I could have done was to try and draw my gun. You are never going to outdraw a cocked revolver in your face. He would have killed me for sure. Carrying a gun gives us a sense of security, but it is not absolute. You need time to draw your weapon and bring it into play. Any robber who knows what he is doing is not going to give you that time. I don't mean to preach - all I'm saying is being aware, being practical and using good judgement are important in knowing when and when not to reach for your gun.
Agreed . For years there was a sawed off 12 gage under the counter of my business . Employees didn't know it was there , I told them to just give the robber the money . Their chance of survival was better .

Is that still your policy? If they're under a drawn gun, sure they wouldn't be able to get that out in time, but shouldn't they know it's there for if there's an opportunity to get it, or if they're ordered to go to another location with the BG?
I think the odds of surviving a fight is better than leaving my fate in the hands of a soulless criminal.
I carry for all the reasons above, and add, I am totally in a scooter when I shop due to CRSD now in both feet and legs, no cure for it. I carry my scooter in a small electric lift on the back of my vehicle.
I cant run away from the time of day. So I carry! There is more but I will leave it at this post..
All of the listed reasons are the same for me. No one knows when or where a violent encounter may occur, nor do we know until after the fact exactly what our response will be. But, having a chance to defend myself,my family or possibly an innocent third party, is much more palatable to me than simply complying with a criminal and relying on the "goodness" of his heart to spare my life. Just my 2 cents.
Take away the Second first, and the First is gone in a second
Indeed! The anti's question is always, "Do you really think you're going to need a gun at (insert location)?" My response is, "If I KNEW that I was absolutely going to have to use my gun, then I wouldn't go to (insert location.) But, since there is no such thing as a 100% safe zone, I am prepared for the UNKNOWN."

You never know, it has been done before, successfully.....there's even a video of it:
