CHL / felony

Hello. About 15 years ago my uncle was convicted of a felony for a violent crime. Served his time and has been a productive member of society since. I know that the conviction deems him ineligible for a CHL. My question is would there be any avenue for him to become eligible? Would he be able to get the conviction expunged? If so, how is that done? I'm just trying to figure out a possible solution because he has saved for many months and purchased (completely legally) a Glock and has been looking forward to open carry to come into effect. Before I drop the news to him that he is ineligible I want to see if there is something he can do about it.
Thanks!
D

I think he would have to be pardoned by the governor, but I'm not sure if there's another way to go

It is difficult and rare, but there is a process.

I think you'll need an attorney's advice.

Do a Google search for Texas expungement attorney.
Here is a short explanation of the process.

IANAL.
That being said, your uncle needs to contact an attorney. While there are exceptions from prosecution under Texas law for a convicted felon to be in possession of a firearm, such as in the home, this isn't the case in federal law. I'm sure the last thing your uncle wants is to go back to prison.
Because of this, he should seek the advice of an attorney.

Is he not in violation of breaking the law by purchasing and being in possession of a handgun? If he is, he does not deserve a LTC as they are for law abiding citizens.
I am not a legal expert. How does a felon that was convicted of a viollent crime purchase a handgun legally?
