Though it was not a crime before to accidentally expose, I think OC makes it safer for us. Before open carry, your average bozo might see a glimpse of your gun and panic and call 911. Now that people are able to see Non-LE walking about with exposed firearms, they'll probably be less likely to panic when you reach up to the top shelf at HEB and expose your IWB holstered 9.

That is the true benefit of the open carry provisions, really it will protect the cc crowd in case of exposures or printing, etc.
I view it as another option, if I feel like OC then I can, if I want to cover it up I can.......... I have the choice now.

Re: Why Accidental Exposure Is Less Dangerous Now
My wife and I were out running errands yesterday and I had my shirt tucked inside my normal IWB holster such that my gun was visibly exposed inside my jacket. We decided to go to a certain nameless restaurant for a early dinner, so I just un-tucked my shirt and was instantly concealed. I simply didn't want to alarm any of the patrons of the restaurant. It was nice to have the choice.Glockedandlocked wrote:That is the true benefit of the open carry provisions, really it will protect the cc crowd in case of exposures or printing, etc.

Equality, rightly understood as our founding fathers understood it, leads to liberty and to the emancipation of creative differences; wrongly understood, as it has been so tragically in our time, it leads first to conformity and then to despotism. Barry Goldwater

I see myself doing this a lot. Jacket with an OWB holster in a position that is visible enough I didn't feel like I was legally concealled in the past but still unlikely anyone will notice it.jminn1 wrote:My wife and I were out running errands yesterday and I had my shirt tucked inside my normal IWB holster such that my gun was visibly exposed inside my jacket. Text of subsection effective on January 01, 2016
(a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder carries a handgun on or about the license holder's person under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and intentionally displays the handgun in plain view of another person in a public place. It is an exception to the application of this subsection that the handgun was partially or wholly visible but was carried in a shoulder or belt holster by the license holder.
So now you can basically not worry at all about printing or the gun becoming visible as long as its in a shoulder or belt holster
