Saw this on a hunting/gun shop today, almost didn't go in because of it, but since it held no legal weight I went in anyway. Was looking for some Hornady V-max or TAP for my 223 to deer hunt with. The guy behind the counter who was also apparently their gunsmith tried to sell me FMJs to deer hunt, turned to leave after explaining that wouldn't work very well and the same guy asked me if I had ever seen these. These turned out to be American Eagle AR556 ammo that were in a customers case whose AR he was working on. I explained that the AE's were just rebranded Federal and he decided to tell me about the "plastic" gun and how he cant make it work. Said it was a Bushmaster Carbon 15. After all that plus the sign out front pretty sure I will never darken their door again.

I agree, there's not much need to spend money there

I could see that if it was "If you are bringing a gun in to be worked on...". As many choices as there are out there I wouldn't go back either.

There is a joker in Granbury with a 30.06 on his gun shop door. Murle's guns. Saw the sign with my own eyes about 4 years ago. Guy fancies himself "a gatekeeper to the Second Amendment" according someone who had a conversation with him about it.

Bullet Trap in Plano has (or used to, have not been there in ages) a sign at the door that "All guns brought into the shop must be unloaded" However during the CHL class and going over requirements someone brought up the sign and how it does not meet 30.06 requirements. The instructor knowingly winked and said we were right and it was done on purpose. To keep the people who should not bring in loaded guns from doing it (they still did it), but not legally restricting those with CHLs.

Yes, they still have that sign - it states that the guns must be unloaded and in a case. However, our CHL instructor there (and a Bullet Trap employee) said that once we received our CHL, that the sign no longer applied to us. I go there to shoot quite often, with my concealed EDC in its normal place and the others in a case. I have asked a couple of times if I can practice with my concealed EDC once I'm at the range bench, and have been told by the employees that it's OK, as long as I'm not drawing from the holster to fire.

a few gun shops/ranges i have visited while traveling with my wife on her business trips had similar signs saying all weapons must be unloaded...these i took as someone bringing weapons in a range bag or being dropped off for repair... most of the times the only weapon i had was my EDC with spare mags and ammo in the range bag.. and since it wasn't a 30.06 i carried in.... was never asked if i was carrying or not and if was asked for I.D. to use the range gave them my CHL... never had any problems

Same here, although we haven't been back there in probably a year or more. The customer service service tanked right about the time they opened Frisco. Has it gotten better?

I haven't had any issues with customer service. But, their inventory of firearms for sale is dramatically lower that it was a couple of years ago. The staff at the main counter have always been courteous and professional when I go in to use the range. I've had 2 firearms that I purchased elswhere (one from Gunbroker, one from CDNN Sports) shipped there for FFL transfer to me. That was smooth and professional.

I tried to give em another chance over the weekend and went in to look for a holster. I wandered around retail for about 10 minutes and walked out before I got so much as a hello.

I'm not sure whether their sign is intended to be ignorable, or if they are just ignorant that it is meaningless. It was more the combination of the sign and the utter incompetence shown by the guy behind the counter that lead me to almost run out of there. I'm ok with the wink and a nod signs, struck me as odd that they used the word concealed specifically.

I see nothing that interests me. I see some words on a sign. I don't see a 30.06 notification in the picture.

As usual, I expect proprietors to follow the same law they expect me to. I am represented by the same state legislature they are. Their and my representatives created a law that applies to us both.

30.06 is proper notification which deals with concealed handguns. There is no provision in the law that allows a proprietor to dictate to me how I may carry my concealed gun....loaded or unloaded...mags in or mags out.

I expect everyone that plays in the concealed hangun game to play by the same book of rules.

Can you imagine if one nfl football team insisted that they can dictate extra rules to the other team? Can you imagine if a cop stops you and gives you a ticket because you used your blinker at a turn but failed to stick your arm out the window also....because that's how they do it in his town!

Can you imagine going to a business that has a sign that says only .45 caliber guns are allowed inside; all others not allowed!

When are we all going to stop acknowledging these people who make this stuff up as they go

The law is clear. I have a right to conceal carry per a specific set of laws. A proprietor has a right to prevent me from carrying as per a specific set of laws.

This sign means nothing. But of course we know that don't we. So it must be, in this situations, that we feel we want to get along so we want to go along. Or we decide to go elsewhere to avoid a situation or take our business elsewhere to "show them".

My way of " showing them" is to live by the law and expect them to do so also.

Were I living in their part of the world, I'd give em a call and inform them (politely) I would not be doing business with them because of their off-putting sign.

I would not educate them about the legality particulars of their sign...

Don't worry guys. The sign states "For the safety of our staff and customers..."

Without customers you need no staff. No staff-no more sign.

How about a sign that says: "Welcome Conceal Carry Folks! All others please confirm your firearm is unloaded if you bring it into the shop."

Now, my proposed sign will have to be modified come January 1st but it should be good until then.

I recall seeing a news story once about customers bringing loaded guns into a pawn shop. The customers would come in swearing their firearm was unloaded so the employee would do a safety check and out pops a round from the chamber....
