Carry on campus anyway - active shooter situation

Today was the first day of the fall semester. At the beginning of every class the teachers go over the syllabus and expectations for the semester, right?
So I was in my third class and the teacher got to the part of the lecture where she explained what to do if an active shooter happened to be on campus. (Which for the record is to keep the door shut, lock everyone out, flip tables over and hide behind them, flatten yourselves up against a wall out of sight from windows, etc....)
But she asked the class who is practicing concealed carry. I keep my hand down, because I'm not the guy to to letting everyone know my business and I wasn't carrying, but there was this super gung ho army guy who raised his hand. The teacher asked him to leave it in his car because she doesn't want anyone losing their mind in class and going crazy, which to his response was "It really takes a lot to make me that angry and you have nothing to worry about".
Talked about open carry for a little....yadda yadda..
Longer story short, this dude openly admitted to carrying his gun in class.
For the whole hour and a half I couldn't stop thinking about how I always leave my Glock
![coolgleam :coolgleamA:](./images/smilies/coolgleamA.gif)
in my glove box because its a community college in a bad part of town but this dude has his gun on him.
I've been thinking about it all day and I'm kind of glad, say if there was an active shooter, we have this soldier who is ready to go, but at the same time it blows my mind this dude doesn't care for the law.
I remember talking to an old marine and he told me that no one can prohibit you from carrying if they don't know you have it.
Ive had my chl for like two years, and to my knowledge that is still super illegal, but it makes me wonder how many people carry regardless of the law.
I don't know anyone who has their CHL besides me in real life so I had to share it with someone, figured why not here.
TY ahead of time

First to welcome you here. You will learn a lot. Have a nice stay.
A new Campus Carry would get into effect on August 1, 2016. That is less than year from now.

You will not find anyone on this forum that will advocate breaking the law. You do not need a CHL to carry a gun. Many people carry without one. You need a CHL to LEGALLY carry a gun. I got a CHL because I wanted to carry and I am a law abiding citizen. Did this Veteran tell the class that he was carrying or did he just tell you? I might kindly tell him that he is breaking the law unless he is a LEO.

He was asked who is practicing CC? It might imply who has a CHL, and it may not mean who is carrying in the class right now.

Interesting first post. I'm always a little suspicious when a newby's first post throws out a scenario of someone breaking the law and then asking if we condone it.
CHL holders are law abiding citizens and we do not promote breaking the law. If we werent, we wouldn't qualify for the license.

Just because someone raises their hand and outs themselves as a CHL holder does not mean that they are breaking the law by carrying in class at that very moment.

Roy, Considering the tense of the question, I took it he acknowledged carrying at the moment.
is practicing... ready to go
Then talks about breaking the law. Seems pretty clear what was being discussed.

Nope not a made up story.
And yeah he admitted to having it on him with the teacher asking him to leave it in his car.
I guess to each his own if he wants to risk whatever he wants to risk. But ill just sit back and keep quiet and use it to my benefit.
and I was unaware a first post means someones story is fabricated, but anyways I appreciate everyone who takes the time out to take the topic seriously. I've been coming to the website ever since I used to google anything and everything about CHL. I found good info in the waiting room portion of the website back in the day when I first applied I just never felt to create an account.
with the old school AOL emoticons.

You aren't the first one to start with a first post regarding a hot button topic that that the anti gun crowd likes to harp on.
Don't take it personally.

Welcome to the forum, and play it legal. Anything other than that is not advised and at your own risk. It is alarming that somebody would be so bold as to announce that he is breaking the law and carrying a gun. I almost wonder if it was just a front, and he was just trying to seem "tough" or something by making it up. And depending on how he was asked to leave, that's a whole nother' issue in itself. Keep your wits about you, and pay attention to class, as well as everything else around you. I would be uneasy with that guy behind me in class for sure.
Since you've noted you've been watching the forum for quite some time, I'm sure you know with whom your ideals align with already when it comes to controversial topics, but pay attention to guys like EEllis, Mojo, ShootDontTalk, KeithB, and AnygunAnywhere. They are full of knowledge, and usually leading a good debate with other big shots around here. Have fun!

I tried to find out what the punishment was for carrying illegally on campus, but I wasn't able to. I think it's a class A misdemeanor, but I'm not sure. In any case, if the student was really armed in the classroom, he was violating the law, and I question whether he even has a CHL. Every CHL holder knows that you can't carry inside a campus building. I disarmed every day when I parked my car and would never have violated the law like that. No matter what this other fellow does, you should never consider carrying inside a campus building until it becomes legal to do so.

Unfortunately, I know a handful of CHL holders who don't think this way. I have been told things like, "I would rather risk a misdemeanor than risk my life" in the discussion of off-limits areas. These are the CHL types that when something does go wrong it hurts all of us as a result.
