Going to the post office to mail my application for something that will keep me out of the post office if at all possible.

That is all...

So true. I'd rather do my business with a smaller, friendlier Pack 'n Ship now.

Texas CHL holders are allowed to carry in Post Offices. Do some research.

Having been here all of 6 months, and have seen this one brought up at least 3 times. I wonder how many times it has happened in total so far.

When a question comes up repeatedly that predictablly brings up a long thread. It is a good time to concider a FAQ. and post it as a sticky in the FAQ section.

True, but this FAQ will have two answers.

Answer 1 - Yes you can carry.

Answer 2 - No you can not carry.

What is the basis fir the assertion that one cannot? Unless an act is proscribed by law, it it legal.

Bottom line: 18 USC 930, which generally bans firearms in federal buildings, does not apply to the Post Office. Instead, they have their own published Rule (39 CFR 232.1) against firearms. The biggest difference is that being found in violation of 18 USC 930 is a felony, but the maximum penalty for violating 39 CFR 232.1 is a $50 fine, 30 days in jail, or both.

Geez........didn't mean to start this....but I will say this.......

Just stop next time you are in the post office and READ the sign!

In order to be charged you have to be in the act of committing a crime, or have the intent to commit a crime.

CHL holders do not enter the Post Office with the intent to commit a crime. Therefore it is not against any law to Carry Normally in the Post Office.

(Same as a Bank) - and please don't get going on the Bank Deal as being Federal either!
