Blog post just completed tonight. Targeting the relatively small % of people who carry in a shoulder holster. And hopefully an even smaller number who chose to carry openly come January 1 in a "horizontal" rig. IMHO anyone OCing in a shoulder holster is nothing more than an attention seeker. Hopefully we won't see much of this type of carry.

Last year the wife and I stopped for lunch at popular local Deli. We got our sandwiches and sat down at a table next to several gentlemen in flight suits. One of them was carrying a handgun in a horizontal shoulder rig similar to the one shown in the OP's link and article. The dangerous end of the pistol was pointing right at my wife. I jokingly said, just loud enough for the guy with the gun to hear, "Look Hun, that guys pointing his gun at you." He calmly turned and said, " Don't worry it won't go off." He did reposition himself so it wasn't pointing at my wife. I chuckled and told him I wasn't concerned, and I had one also but you can't see it. This group of guys were a flight crew working for the Department of Homeland Security. I will say it is a little concerning looking down the muzzle of gun in one of these holsters, even though I know it's very unlikely it will fire when holstered. It just goes against the grain and everything I've been taught about gun safety. If he had on his jacket we wouldn't have even known. Probably not a holster I would open carry with. I'm wondering if we will see some changes and a better description of what holsters can be used for open carry in the next session. It's obvious the vague description we have now in the law has made for many questions. Only time will tell.

I have a horizontal shoulder holster, but I'd never OC with it for the above reasons.

Frankly, the holster is perfectly safe. It covers the trigger just like any other holster. It is a retention holster. The gun can't fire while in the holster. But, I do understand how uncomfortable it would make someone feel to have the muzzle of my pistol covering them. That's why I wouldn't OC with it.

I conceal carry using horizontal shoulder holster but doubt I would ever openly carry that way, actually doubt I would open carry period but I do like having the option or more so no worries if do accidentally show. I guess it's just the visual of seeing it cause as someone else mentioned no telling how many you don't see doing the same thing. Only way I would probably openly carry would be with a drop leg / thigh holster. Just due to my size I find it uncomfortable with regular belt type holster.

I have one of those too - and like it. Used periodically with lightweight semi when at hunting lease. But ..... in the opinion of honcho lady from DPS at Instructor Conference a week or three ago, they would probably not meet the "belt holster" definition.

My S&W 60 rides well in a Galco Lite rig, and is very comfortable and accessible while driving, especially those long Texas
drives. If you see me at a gas pump wearing that rig, I'm not seeking attention, I'm just exercising my rights.

I have nothing against OC or those who choose to do so. Nor have I called anyone names. I only hope that those who do choose to do so use wisdom. And thanks for the beat down.

I may.... stress MAY... have occasion to OC a shoulder holster while taking a break from riding my motorcycle. Would certainly try to avoid it.

Under a shirt, not at all. If you normally wear it under a jacket and happen to have the jacket off while pumping gas, no issue.
Someone who runs out and buys a shoulder holster solely for the purpose of OCing IMHO is looking for attention. This is obviously not what you are doing.

interesting I wonder how or who could give confirmation on it or not -- to me they would be more secure then typical clip belt holster and they do attach to a belt at the top

He's more than capable of defending himself, but I don't recall a single post where he dished out a beatdown or anything close. Here's another perfect example of someone not agreeing with an opinion, so they must be wrong.

A lot of us may not choose to open carry, but none of us are actively running the law down. Personally I'm more than happy to call out the militants and attention seekers for what they are, but that's just me.
