30.06 Sign
Someone please tell me if I'm wrong, but I went to the hospital the other day and the 30.06 sign wasn't also written in Spanish. I thought it had to be in both languages. So, can this sign be ignored by CHL holders?

Re: 30.06 Sign
Someone else also mentioned this, I think at the Round Rock Medical Center. They had the same thing, with the English posted on the glass to the right of the doors. As they were leaving, they realized the Spanish was on the glass on the opposite side of the doors. Some may argue that this does not constitute proper posting, as it's not a single sign. It seems that the intent was to make sure that the notice was posted conspicuously in both of the common languages spoken here in Texas. Separate or apart, I think this still does the job.pastor1 wrote:Someone please tell me if I'm wrong, but I went to the hospital the other day and the 30.06 sign wasn't also written in Spanish. If it was only in 1 language, it is not a proper sign. If it was on 2 signs but at the same entrance, I would take that as legal notification.
Find a different entrance. I had an operation at a hospital in Austin last year and there was 1 entrance that didn't have a sign at all. Guess what entrance I always took?

Correct me if I'm wrong....it has been a while since my renewal class but IIRC.....CCW at Hospitals is a NO-NO whether signs are posted or not.

There is a grey area about some of some hospitals being schools though.

(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.
Subsection (b)(6) refers to church, synagogue, or other established place of religious worship.
notice was still given, you were still trespassing.Kalrog wrote:Find a different entrance. I had an operation at a hospital in Austin last year and there was 1 entrance that didn't have a sign at all. Guess what entrance I always took?

It could hold if the accused could convince the court that he had never seen or known about the sign. Convincing the court of that might involve lying. Some might have a moral issue with this.pbandjelly wrote:notice was still given, you were still trespassing.Kalrog wrote:Find a different entrance. It's not, "oh but the once entrance...", it's "There was no notice posted where I entered." Period. Someone using that entrance has no way of knowing what is posted on other doors.pbandjelly wrote:"oh but the one entrance..."

Now, if you're on video walking up to and then walking away from all the posted entrances, and entering the one unposted entrance, a prosecutor could probably make the case that you'd been notified.
But it would be far from definite, even in that case. Hospitals tend to be big complexes, with a confusing array of entrances for visitors, the ER, day clinics, specialized treatment centers, the adjoining professional office building (which happens to be a completely separate business), etc.
A hospital with multiple entrances, some of them unposted, is not unlike a Mills mall, where the mall entrances are posted, but the anchor stores with their own entrances are not posted. Matter of fact, that's a good analogy: most modern hospitals amount to "medical malls". There might only be one roof, but there are a lot of independent operations under that roof, having their own rules.
After all, when you go to the hospital, you don't get a bill, you get lots of bills from different businesses. Sometimes I think there must be some folks who just wander the halls picking up charts and sending bills.
