very good read for sure! it made me rewind and re analyze the one situation i've had that had the potential to become a threat. had the siuation been more advanced i could have been in a bad spot.

Excellent attitude -- many people find it difficult to be as open minded as you on realizing there might be more to thinking these situations through.

A big part of this work is PRACTICE.

In teaching this material, we do scenarios where the "bad guy" actively tries to trick the defender into "engaging" or otherwise letting him approach (we do this after people demonstrate the basic idea.)

It is surprising to see how DIFFICULT something SO SIMPLE is to do when confronted by even a mock threat.

What this means is that most people are going to be in even worse shape if the threat is real.

We really want our "threat avoidance" efforts to go onto AUTOPILOT so our brain is free to THINK and PLAN how the heck to get out of there.

Even little things like saying, "Hey man, I said Back off" dilute the effect so much that it is hard to believe.

Once someone knows the method PERFECTLY, and PRACTICES it that way, they are beginning to be qualified to know HOW and WHEN to break the rules and do something "extra".

For my part I always review every deviation that I make from the Back Off sequence to determine if that was done SMART or SLOPPY.

Smart can be very good; sloppy is almost always dangerous.

It is surprisingly hard to get your gun out (despite what you have been led to believe) when under IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL attack or even just pressure, so we will help you work through this to find ways to GAIN TIME AND SPACE to access your firearm.

Herb thanks. I just glanced at your link--is every meeting always in Round Rock? If not, it would be very helpful to include the location on the calendar entries.

BTW Slide 38 "The Criminal wants you to THING". No, THINK. Same slide "The Criminal doesn't card HOW..." no, CARE HOW... Probably artifacts of your spell-checker, but these are the types of things that can cause people like me to get sidetracked as you are talking.
