CHL as ID

#1

Post by howdy »

I just saw a Texas Department of State advertisment for voting. It was reminding Texans that a valid picture ID would be required this year to vote. They went through a list of valid ID's and The CHL is one of them.

My thought is because you cannot carry at a polling place I would think that if you used your CHL for ID it would bring a lot more intrusive questions.

When I went to the presidential election last Nov, they also said the CHL was one of the valid ID's that could be used but I used my DL as I always did before.

Required this year?

It's been required where I live in Texas for many years and I'm glad it's required.

Not that any non-citizen/dead person or otherwise unqualified to vote would even contemplate voting, nah, couldn't happen according to your average American socialist...

Why advertise you have a CHL when you have a DL or State ID anyway?

As Carlson1 stated it can raise more questions than it answers...

It was kinda comical, maybe a bit encouraging, I used my Texas CHL License as ID at Osan AB, Korea. When I retreived the license, I was rewarded with a salute. It was sorta awkward and I didn't know how to respond. So, I returned the salute.

Back in the vehicle, my son chuckled and told me that, most likely, that seeing a Concealed Carry Permit was a first for the guard.

I keep my ID in the same slot as my CHL, when I last voted I accidentally pulled out both, then handed them my CHL on purpose. Not an eye was batted as they took down my info, looked me up on the rolls, had me sign and then handed my CHL back to me. Totally a non-event. I'm in a small county so maybe that had somethign to do with it.

:iagree: I didn't have my voter registration card with me, so I used my CHL at the last election as well - no problemo - no shouts of "he's got a gun" - no raised eyebrows - basically a smile and "would you like a paper ballot or electronic?"

I've even used it as ID when signing for a bank account for a local ham radio club. The bank lady simply smiled and said "a whole lot of us here got one of those, as well." And there weren't any "no guns" stickers on the door, either.

I hope they come out with touch screens voting machines next time I go vote. Those with the selector wheel thingy are complicated and I wasn't the only one who had trouble and I grew up in the gadget era.

My wife had to use her CHL once to board a plane. Her TX DL doesn't match her passport.

I've used my CHL as a 2nd photo ID to establish a business checking account. The bank manager who was helping me chuckled when she saw it. I asked her if it was rare. She said no it wasn't ........... and then she said she thought everybody should have one.

Just as a little test; earlier this year while on a cruise in Hawaii, I used my Tx CHL each and every time I had to show ID. (Hawaii doesn't honor TX CHL)

No one ever questioned it. Probably never looked at anything but the picture, if that.

I used mine to rent a car in Canada when I had misplaced my license. Good thing your drivers license number is on it. They probably had no idea the difference.
