A "30.06 - 4" sign

Saw this at my new doctor's office the other day. This was the exact wording:

"Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code, a person may not enter this property with a concealed handgun”
:confused5

Notice the missing parts:

"Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun”

Not to mention the Spanish.

That sign may indeed impart the intent, but it does not meet the standard under the law. I personally wouldn't carry past it because I wouldn't want to give them my business. YMMV.

Yeah it was a real head-scratcher for me when I first saw it, although at the time I happened to not be carrying. But I stood there thinking, did they not read the fine print? Or did someone get "creative" and try to save space? The one thing we have going for us in clear, Texas law is that the 30.06 wording is massive, and ugly, which is why some businesses like this one or others (*cough* AMC Theaters *cough*) try to cut corners.

Either way, there are several locations where I can visit this particular doctor, so I won't be going to this particular one! :thumbs2:

Could be your Dr's office was informed by an outside agency that this was required and your Dr conformed without actually requiring.

I think, sometimes, businesses put up a sign that will make "some folks" happy, but "others" will know that they are fine, thereby hopefully making everyone happy :???:

This.

I would carry past that sign in most situations, however, with a Dr. you don't always know when & where you'll be touched.
I would speak with the Dr honestly (I would NOT tell them their sign is invalid) and if they really don't want you to carry in their office, I would find a different doctor.

SewTexas - Astute observation!

This is, I think, precisely why (in the main) businesses post these invalid signs, but some pro-gun folk still get angry simply seeing ANY sign like it because, apparently they think inflexibility is a sign of strength.

It isn't...

Guns ARE controversial.

If invalid signs are posted it's a GOOD thing!

personally I don't carry in a Dr. office if I'm the patient. I never know if I'm going to be asked to change, etc, just too risky.

as for the sign, I'd ignore it. but that's me, if you really feel like you need to say something, you could say "hey, I noticed you have a new sign on your door. what's up with that?"

Maybe this is the Reader's Digest condensed version.

Or maybe their sign maker charged by the letter. :biggrinjester:

Makes open carry ok, right.

I tend to believe that might be the case when it is some generic "gunbusters" sign, or something similar. With them posting a wrongly worded 30.06, it makes me believe they wanted to actually stop folks from carrying inside, but decided to cut corners, or were merely incompetent about it.

Um.... no it doesn't. Texas -still- does not have open carry, -unless- you are on your own property, or property you legally control. Unless you are the doctor, or someone hired by the doctor, you have no controlling interest in that property, and cannot open carry.

I know they don't care about my health if they tell me not to wear a seat belt or carry a handgun.

My doctor has a CHL - we shoot at the same range. His property management tried to '30.06' his building, but I guess they didn't want a big, ugly sign - the letters are only 1/2". I carry, and tell the nurse to knock off a pound or two when she records my weight.
