Guy behind "Am I ok to carry in on my license?"

Brainwave security guy "Sure I just need to take down some info."

Guy "That's ok I don't have it with me this time."

Anyone think APD officers inside would believe the guy and not file on him or the DPS wouldn't yank his license if he were spotted.

While I would LOVE it to be true, I couldn't stand for some one to get busted, filed on and lose the license because a poorly trained private security guy didn't know what he was talking about. Had to send a note to the VP in charge of stadium operations and security.

My guess would be he thought you were a police officer. I have had it happen to me at the AAC but when he saw the chl he went, oh, ummm, you can't carry with that...are you not a cop?

Maybe in 2015......

A: Guy behind, being a CHL, should know better.

B: If it was not for a professional sporting event, then Brainwave might have been half right, although we stirred up enough of an uproar about State Fair security taking down "some info" that they don't do that any more.

How exactly would it have been anyone's fault other than the guy with the CHL? I doubt the security guy attended a CHL class. Maybe based on the question the guy behind you didn't attend a CHL class either.

Yes I agree licensee should have known better, several possible reasons he might not. All of which put the monkey still on his back.

1) Know it all personality doesn't pay attention while in class.
2) He found one of the instructors that does a poor job of imparting state law because he/she prefers to ramble about anecdotes that have no bearing on the required subject matter.
3) He took one of the out of state cheaper license class's that does not cover Texas specific laws.

Still the "security" personnel at the ballpark "should" be trained and know what they are talking about. My first guess was the security guy must have worked previously for the company providing gate security at the State Fair. Incompetence and lack of training in any job is a strong pet peeve of mine, as it reflects poorly on an organization from the top down.

All of which are reasons I point people toward this board when I detect a possible gap in their knowledge of Texas CHL laws. Thank you Chas. for this asset to the members of this community.

Guy behind should definitely know better...most likely professional sporting event.

That said, I have known people who did know better (and were not armed) and would ask that type of question just to see what the hired security staff would say....

am I missing something here? it specifically says that you can't carry at an interscholastic or professional event. does the ballpark host any other types of events besides the MLB baseball games? or was the point of this that the guy asking the security guard was either ignorant or incompetant of the law?

Apparently the OP wants to put this on the back of the "Rent a Cop" for not being up on CHL laws. I think that is a reach. If the guy asking the question was indeed referring to a CHL, then it's all a matter of personal responsibility as far as I'm concerned.
In my experience, more than half the LEOs I've talked to are misinformed/ignorant of CHL laws. How do you expect more from a "Rent a Cop" than you do a LEO?

ohh okay thanks for clearing the mud! if the security guard were up to date he would've have told him no and unfortunately most likely would have been searched or told to go put it in the vehicle or leave.

I do not blame the security guard. I believe it is our responsibility to know where we can and cannot carry.
