Ok , I know I'll get flack on this for being stupid but ; there is no carry in a hospital , is a private practice doctors office a hospital , a dentist , a private clinic , etc ?

Hospitals are only off limits if they are posted with a valid 30.06 sign... same as other private property.

You can carry in a hospital unless they have a 30-06. You can carry in a doctor's office unless there is a 30-06. Where are you getting the no carry in a hospital from?

They're all fine for carry unless properly posted or you are given effective notice ( and except for govt. locations )

'No carry' only applies if you have been given effective notice (big ugly 30.06 sign, etc.). So you can carry in a hospital if you have not been given effective notice. Same for doctor office, dentist, etc. Now, we have hashed out some different scenarios on several threads on this forum. But for general hospital/doctor office/dentist, etc., no effective notice = Stay Calm, Carry On. I carry at a doctor office that has an out-of-date sign; bad part of town, but I love the doctor. Please understand that this is for the general public. Employees of hospitals/offices/etc. should consult their employee manuals and/or company policy.

Don't get started with teaching hospitals - they are a whole 'nother argument. Let's just say some grey area.

Not saying you are dumb. I asked the same questions when I got my CHL.

It's not too dumb of a question though, when Texas first issued CHL hospitals were on the prohibited list. I forget when it actually came off the list and they were forced to use the 30.06 to keep us out.

Well actually thats why I asked the question . There is still a great deal of old info floating on the internet , best to make sure and this is an excellent place to learn or confirm .

CHL-16 is your friend.

PC §46.035. UNLAWFUL CARRYING OF HANDGUN BY LICENSE HOLDER.
(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:
(4) on the premises of a hospital licensed under Chapter 241, Health and Safety Code, or on the premises of a nursing home licensed under Chapter 242, Health and Safety Code, unless the license holder has written authorization of the hospital or nursing home administration, as appropriate;

(i) Subsections (b)(4), (b)(5), (b)(6), and (c) do not apply if the actor was not given effective notice under Section 30.06.

So section (i) negates (b)(4), unless the 30.06 is present.

I have noticed most large hospitals in large cities post 30.06 signs (Harris, Baylor, and Medical Plaza, all in Fort Worth) but small town hospitals typically don't. Check the doors for the sign, and if none there you should be good to carry. Be very careful. The Harris Methodist hospital, a small one, in Southlake has the "white on glass" 30.06. It is really hard to see unless you know that it is there. I'm not willing to risk pressing the fact that it is not really contrasting. A number of the other hospitals have the same difficult to read sign setup. The Irving Baylor facitily only has the 30.06 sign on ambulance entrance. The LEO on a desk inside is a pretty good indicator, however. The South entrance, through the large office building, is unposted. I'm betting that the sign is applied to any connected part of the facility by LE and the Iriving DA, if it ever comes to that.

My approach is to assume that any larger medical facility associated with Harris or Baylor is posted unless I physically prove to myself that it isn't. I understand that is not the way that the TPC reads but I don't have the deep pockets to hire lawyers to take more of a purist approach.

And according to my CHL instructor, any hospital associated with a medical school is under the school prohibition and doesn't need a sign. One would be wise to check prior.
