I got a letter in the mail today regarding an arrest I had in high school that was dismissed after a few court appearances. since they need some kind of record, how would i obtain this? I was arrested by spring isd but i showed up to court in downtown houston (which i assume is also harris county). here is what the letter says
Please provide one of the following documents so that we may determine your eligibility for the license and continue processessing your application:
if your case was dismissed or you were acquitted, submit a copy of the dismissal of judgment of acquittal.
if you were convicted (this includes offenses for which you received probation) or received deferred adjudication for the offense, submit a copy of the judgment and sentence.
if the charges were dropped by the arresting agency, submit a certified county clerk (misdemeanor) and district clerk (felony) record search in the couty where the arrest occurred, beginning with the year of your arrest to the present date that indicates no records were found.
i guess i just mail it to the address at the top?

Contact the Harris County Court clerk and ask them to provide you a copy of the disposition of that case. If they dont have any records, then get them to issue you a letter stating that they find no record of it.

What is it with all of these threads about DPS asking for more info? When I was living in Texas I received a MIP. A few years later I applied for my CHL and was never asked for more documentation. It took 45days from mailbox to mailbox via regular mail not certified.
The other thing is with them being a LEO agency you'd think they could get the info for themselves. For the overly high price of a CHL you'd think they could do some work and earn the money. They know so.ething popped up you would think they could take the next step.

Not DPS job it should have been put on the application then they would not have to send a letter requesting the info. They're being nice could just deny app because the arrest was not listed.

Objection, assuming facts not in evidence.
Nowhere above does it say the arrest was not listed on the application, they simply said the DPS requested more information.

I stand by what I said. Whether or not if it is listed on the application (minor things in the past can be forgotten about) they're doing the check and as an agency they have the ways and means to verify any information that comes up. They should cut out the middle man and request the info from the arresting agency/court themselves. Instead the CHL is over priced and DPS wastes tax dollars by sending out letters and then having to reprocess the application. I'm sure they spend more time verifying the documents with the appropriate agency once they are sent in. In the letters they send out if they can list where the offense took place they can see what the disposition is.

just to give an update on this for anyone who finds it in the future, i called the juvenile court and they mailed me the record and had it certified. faxing it in on monday to get my application underway again :)
just to clarify, I did list it and on the paper they sent me they put (self-admitted). it would be nice if they could just call like i did and ask for the info but no big deal.

I have never been arrested, but when I applied I knew if I had been, I was supposed to not only list it but also include documentation of the disposition of the arrest and/or charges. Is that part of the application instructions or did I just have an uncommonly competent instructor?

When I applied for my CHL I had a MIP on my record. I just wrote down what happened in the space provided. I was never asked for any documentation and I never provided any. I got my CHL 45 days from mailbox to mailbox.
