Now that it's getting warmer and it's light later in the evening, my sons and I are starting to get some bike rides in. I've had my CHL since the middle of last summer, but I haven't carried on the bike yet. I guess you could say that I've progressed from initially carrying when it was convenient to now carrying everywhere I legally can.

Anyway -- does anyone have any experience with carrying while riding a bicycle? Let me also mention that when I ride, I wear the real cycling stuff -- shorts, jersey, etc. Because of that, I can't use any of my normal holsters. The ideas I've had are to carry my little .32 in its rectangular nylon zip case in my back jersey pocket (center pocket) or possibly get something that will attach to the top tube of the bike (I ride a road bike).

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I ride all the time with a normal IWB holster on my hip, but I always wear cargo shorts. If you get decked out in full riding regalia, a belly-band setup seems appropriate.

One of those fanny-pack type holsters might work.

We also ride, and I've been thinking about this also. Usually I wear cargo-type shorts too, so it's usually not a problem.

I'd avoid the bike-attached pack, just because if you stop somewhere and leave your bike outside, it might be awkward to remove the gun or the pack and carry it in. I think the rear pocket is the better option. My only concern is that a P32 in the KT pouch in a rear pocket is not quickly accessible. Also, in really hot weather do you still way shirts with rear pockets?
I think the belly-band might be hot.
The best option I can thin of is a small fanny-pack. This is what I do.
Anotehr possibilty for the P32 might be the neck lanyard, depending on how loose your shirt is. doesn't work for me, but it might for you.

I wear standard road cycling clothes except that I wear a belt under my jersey with an iwb holster in the small of my back. I put my sweat rag in the center pocket of my jersey over the pistol to better cover the outline of the pistol through the lycra. The pistol gets exposed to lots of sweat so it gets wiped down with oil after every ride. I carried in the rear pocket for a while, but access was not acceptable and it tended to bounce a lot on rough sections of road.

Dave -- I had not thought of a belt under the jersey. Do you use a normal leather belt?

I found that a leather belt will not hold up to the constant exposure to sweat. I use a canvas (cotton) belt with a cam buckle. I position the buckle on the hip so it does not bother me when on the drops. Also you need to rinse the salt out of the holster after the ride to limit the exposure of the gun to salt when it is returned to the holster.

Wilderness Safepacker.......you could get really creative with one of these holsters when attaching it to yourself or the bike. This is about the size of some bags that are made to fit behind the seat. With some practice one could get pretty fast with one of these.....there is also space for an extra mag.

I purchased one for my wife about a year ago and have been pretty impressed with it.

I do not have any experience with the belt version, but I see that there is a model that allows a space for water bottles on each side of the holster..I would say that is pretty good concealment!

I can carry my wifes S&W 646 in my jersey back pocket. Use a lite, thin, flexible holster to keep her dry. Keep pedaling

I carry a Keltec P3AT in a pocket holster when I mountain bike; fits nicely inside the jersey's back pocket. A spare mag rides loose in the other jersey pocket, hidden by a spare tube....

I wear a fanny pack when I ride. It's not real accessible, but I figure it's better than nothing.

Camelbak lists a couple of their hydration packs with a built-in holster.
It would also provide a place for carrying a spare magazine.
That places the handgun in the "small of back" position between you
and the water bag proper.

I wear a fanny pack when I ride my Trek. At 12:30 or 1 o'clock on my torso, it's very accessible.

just thinking through this, I would probably carry in my right back jersey pocket, a smith centennial

you have to analyze the percieved potential threats...

on road bike ride they would be for where I ride either dogs or dumb redneck
