Im 3 out of 4 on traffic stops.
Wow its hard to imagine I have been stopped 4 time since I got my plastic. Fourth time was today, a very polite policeman from Manville stopped me on my way back from the MSR racetrack. I would say they have a target rich environment when there is an event at the MSR. I was stopped for no front license plate. My third warning with my CHL. I was stopped a few months ago for non working tail light. Got a ticket for that one. Its like 140 dollars for a non moving violation here in Houston.

I mean, there is a reason why when you get plates they give you two. (And the reason isn't to give you a spare or let you take care of a second car.)

The same thing happened to me. I thought one was a spare.HankB wrote:Stolen? Fell off?philip964 wrote: . . . I was stopped for no front license plate. . .

I've driven for twenty years with no front license on the car. I keep it in the trunk.
First time stopped for that, yes.
Spoils the look of the car.
Vain, foolish, stupid. Yes to all.
I confess.
But hey I also paid extra for Rosewood grips on my last gun.

Neither of my vehicles have a mounting bracket, or even mounting holes, for a front license plate. I suspect the manufacturers would have made provision for mounting a front plate (as they each did for a rear plate) had they intended for one to be displayed on the vehicles.HankB wrote:Stolen? Isn't there no more penalty for no front plate due to a screw up in the legislation?
Re: Im 3 out of 4 on traffic stops.
This is a common problem among some members of my sports Car Club. There are cars with no front plate brackets because some states only require a rear plate. I've been stopped once for this and paid the fine. It was in a Firreo which is a plastic car and I was worried about drilling into and cracking the plastic.

Yes. I think that is the case now. And in fact because of the screw up they actually removed the penalty for both plates or something like that when they only intended to modify the requirement for the front plate.Scott in Houston wrote:Isn't there no more penalty for no front plate due to a screw up in the legislation?

Re: Im 3 out of 4 on traffic stops.
Being that I was previously going over a hundred, I was quite happy to hear it was about my license plate.
With all the flat land there the stop was very visible and took in all about twenty minutes. During that time, I slowed a lot of traffic down on 288, including one hot yellow Lamborghini, who I'm sure was going, "thank my stars that it's him, not me".
So Manville did not make any additional revenue, but the highway was maybe a little bit safer that afternoon. Plus I have a free souvenir.

I am 3 for 4 on speeding stops. One was 20 over, two were 10 over...it was the 11 over that got me busted. Had my plastic Utah permit for 1.5 years now. Guess I am luckyish.

My Porsche 968 also doesn't have any plate mount on the front and I don't like the way screwing the plate to the front plastic looks! (also too much aerodynamic drag!!) I have the plate on the dashboard and nobody's ever given me any headache. From DPS FAQ page: "How many license plates am I required to display?
State law requires that you display two (2) license plates, one to the front and one to the rear. Placement or mounting of license plates is not defined."

And I don't like how carrying a driver's license, CHL, etc. makes my wallet look fat when I'm carrying it in my back pocket, so I think I'll just leave them at home.mlawler wrote:My Porsche 968 also doesn't have any plate mount on the front and I don't like the way screwing the plate to the front plastic looks!

If he's willing to pay the fine, why does it bother you so much?
