New in Texas, two questions.
I became a Texas resident just recently. I went to the Police Department in Terrell, TX. and explainded that I had just become a resident and had a Colorado carry permit. I asked if it would be honored in Texas until I get a texas permit. I had asked several police officers and Sherrifs and was amazed at how little they seemed to know about it. I was told it would be honored here until the expiration date. Other people have told me that is incorrect. Anyone know for sure???

According to http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry ... _maps.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; your CO permit is honored in Texas.

Re: New in Texas, two questions.
Here's a good primer for you.
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetfo ... chl-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Texas CHLs are administerd by the Department of Public Safety (Texas State Troopers) & state law governs CHL provisions. If you need further help, contact the DPS directly because as you've already seen, the locals may or may not know the specific provisions.
A 30.06 sign is one of only 2 signs that a CHL'er needs to pay attention to. 30.06 refers to the actual law that give the specifics for posting signs that would make it illegal to carry a concealed weapon into an establishment.
The TX Alcohol & Beverage Commission 51% sign is the other. The TABC mandates that any establishment that generates 51% or more of its revenue from alcohol sales for ON-SITE consumption must post a sign with a red 51% on it. This applies mostly to bars & ice-houses. Restaurants that have bar areas rarely fit the description.
And lastly, Welcome to Texas!!!![Texas Flag :txflag:](./images/smilies/texasflag.gif)

Everything you need to know, and some things you don't, are covered over and over within this forum. As you've already learned, the local constabulary may not be the best source of information on the subject of concealed carry in Texas.

If you've moved here ... You ought to go ahead and take a Texas class/do the paperwork etc to get a Texas CHL, so you'll be legal in school zones under the Federal Gun Free School Zone Act which provides an exemption for you outside a school building (can't go in building-Texas law), but while in a gun free school zone (exempt outside the buildings, in school zoneFederal Law), if you have a "license issued by the State in which the school is located* like if you go in a school parking lot in your car etc. ... but certain things like outdoor sporting events, outdoor school sponsored activities etc ... you can't carry(Texas law)
Welcome

Re: New in Texas, two questions.
Since CO does NOT issue or honor non-resident licenses, the question you need answered is whether your CO permit is still valid since you don't live in CO. You may want to consider contacting the issuing agency in CO to find out if your permit is still valid.

Re: New in Texas, two questions.
Answer: sort of.
Changing residency requires you get a TX DL and CHL
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLice ... otexas.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Your CO license is technically valid, except that it assumes you are a CO resident., just like your CO DL.

Re: New in Texas, two questions.
Colorado law (18-12-210) requires a permittee to notify the issuing Sheriff within 30 days of moving. It doesn't seem like there's a provision for nonresident permits, so the Sheriff would probably revoke the permit. However unlikely, if the CO Sheriff issues a new permit with the Texas address, it seems it would be valid until it expires.
Here's another twist. Even though a new Texas resident has to get a Texas DL within 90 days if they drive, they only have 30 days to get vehicles inspected and registered in Texas.

Re: New in Texas, two questions.
having been a CO resident for a bit with TX on either side, I have to agree with tbrown above....she's right. CO want's it back, you're not a citizen anymore. believe me it was a pain, with the expense of moving, all on us, too, I might add, no one paid to move us. we had to add TWO Texas CHL's on top of it, quickly.
