Hospitals and CHLs

I was thinking about carrying my bug into the hospital to visit my daughter today. I decided not to but I could have. All they had was a ghost buster sticker posted on the door.

Very nice. Thankfully, I don't get to very many hospitals, but have yet to see one that was not properly posted.

That's unusual. The Texas Hospital Association suggests strongly that member hospitals post 30.06 legal signs as a matter of routine.

Mine wasn't for the longest time.
Then, I went on my day off to so some paperwork, and there it was on the front door.
Granted, until that day I usually went in the employee entrance in the back.

Hope you daughter is okay.
I still have a portacath for lymphoma treatments in 2006 and it requires a flush every 6-8 weeks. The clinic is located inside the county hospital and yesterday I carried there for the first time. They have the old signs in out of the way places, but no 30.06 so I figured why not.
Not all hospitals are militant about the 30.06.

It appears that the "chain" hospitals are militant. Baylor and Harris Methodist both appear to systematically post 30.06. I just sent a new listing for Baylor Irving off of I-635 to Texas3006.com yesterday. I came through the South entrance and there was no sign. I was surprised and decided to do a little investigation. Sure enough, on the East entrance, into the corridor between the two large buildings was a seemingly valid 30.06. I say "seemingly" because it is the same white-on-glass format that all of the hospitals use. Hardly contrasting but it would be valid enough to get you arrested, I suspect. I don't think that fact that the sign was only visible to one entrance would keep me from taking a ride, either.

Yep, I've been to Baylor All Saints, Harris Methodist, and USMD Arlington recently (can I get frequent flyer miles?) and all are posted. Seems my little county hospital is the only one I've been to that isn't.

I went three times to North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio to visit someone and entered from the east side, only seeing the old signage. Then the last time I entered from the west side, which I guess it the main entrance, and there was the 30.06, larger than life. And I mean that. I think the sign is four foot tall, white letters on a red background. If you try the "I must of missed the sign" ploy they'll hand you your dark glasses and cane.

I'm curious, what is the status of a hospital that doesn't have a valid sign, but is a teaching hospital?
I'm referring to Texoma Medical Center in Sherman / Denison. Their sign is clearly nowhere near 30.06:
viewtopic.php?f=53&t=34571&p=656880&hil ... ma#p648042" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
However, they teach student nurses from Grayson County College there.
Could it also be construed as a school and therefore off limits? Is there any case law on this?

IANAL, but being a teaching hospital and being a school/university hospital are two completely separate things. All hospitals teach (both doctors and nurses) in the sense that they have interns, residents, etc. Those are only off limits if it has a 30.06. Though I don't believe there is any case law on this. As for university hospitals, those would naturally be off limits under the letter of the law.
Edited to add: In my work (transporting elderly and disabled persons), I go to a lot of hospitals. Interestingly enough not all Baylor facilities have 30.06 signs. The Baylor Family Medical Center in Wylie doesn't, nor does Baylor Rehab in Frisco. All of the downtown Baylor facilities do, as does Baylor in McKinney. I don't know if it's an oversight on Baylor's part, but I'm sure not going to tell anyone there about it!

TMC in Denison is not a "teaching hospital". The nursing school is not part of the hospital. The nursing school is at Grayson County college--the students do rotations through all of the hospitals in the area. Been there, done that! When I was in nursing school, we were told that we were not part of the hospital staff and as such they accepted no responsibility for us. We had an instructor with us who we reported to.
TMC(nor WNJ) have valid 30.06 signs. Haven't been to TMC in a while--last time there saw nothing. Last time I was at WNJ I saw a "faux" sign on the sliding glass doors at the front--I just went in a different entrance!

I also frequent hospitals in my line of work. It's pretty much 50/50 those that have official 30.06 signs and those that either have gun busters or nothing at all.
