A Louisiana college student desperately tried to fend off her killer by spraying him with mace and even stabbing him several times with his own knife before he fatally shot her, according to details revealed Friday in a guilty plea hearing.
It's
not that she lacked the will to fight, it's just that she was over powered by this cretin. If she had been lawfully carrying a firearm, things may have been quite different.
There is a reason the term "Equalizer" came about.

Other than the obvious, what else that is truly sad about this is the plea bargain deal.
Why wasn't this worthless white thug sentenced to be hung by the neck until dead on the capitol grounds at high noon with full media coverage?

He'll likely qualify for early release in 2 years.

That's horrible.
And it's exactly why I went ahead and got my CHL. Mace is fine, but a bullet is even better when it comes to self-defense.
I hope that her family is able to get some closure.

Ummm.. the news report said that he plead guilty and received life imprisonment with no parole. You know something the news report doesn't?

In the wake of Virginia repealing their one handgun per month law, women are driving up gun sales in the state.
“I enjoy coming here,” she said.
The 23-year-old school teacher visited Sharpshooters Small Arms Range” in Lorton for the first time a couple of weeks ago. She’s been back three times since.
“I did a better job than I thought I would do and it makes me feel good that I could protect myself if anything was to happen,” Grande said.
Then there’s Springfield resident Pam Tesnow who’s been shooting since the 70’s.
“I have 3 children. I have 8 grandchildren,” she said.
Read the rest at the link above.
Seriously... Virginia women figured out ... one gun a month makes as much sense as one purse a month or one pair of shoes a month... (Some guys know ...both shoes and purses can be used as weapons too)

I feel so disgusted by this low-life.

This is EXACTLY why Im trying to get my CHL. I can't explain the feeling of being a woman and being in a situation where you are completely defenseless or the feeling you get when a man approaches and something about him makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. A gun is about the only thing I can think of that evens the odds.

Yes maam & that is why it was called an "Equalizer" very early on.
Thank you Samuel Colt.
Then came JMB

My exact sentiments. I have been followed on several occasions and that is something you don't forget. I have old knee injuries from HS so I know I would be overpowered and outrun by a man and a matter of seconds. It aggravates me to no end that I can't carry on campus. The school I attend is notorious as a party school and is situated across the street from the bar district of town but its the cheapest school to get my undergrad at because its here in my home town. Hoping TSRA can get campus carry through this next year. I really don't feel safe armed with just pepper spray.

This case is another good example of why a person should never let themselves be removed from the original scene. When someone wants to get you into a car -- whether by trickery or by force -- that is the time to fight with absolutely every last breath.

Scumbag should have been found guilty, taken out to the town square, a bullet put in his head, and then thrown in the Bayou.

Not sure if this is fact or not, but I've heard this guy's plea bargain only applied to two murders. DA is currently building a case for a 3rd and does plan to seek the death penalty for the 3rd murder. The plea bargain was made to get him to reveal the location of Mickey's body.

Well ... that's good if true, because we are low on the death penalty drugs and it is cheaper to just give him the one shot than three. To execute him two more times would cost taxpayers more and I don't think Medicare covers that drug... after executing him the first time, the two following times would be less entertaining anyway
