Does anyone know the law on a purchasing a gun in the Phillipines. I may be going over there for work and was wondering if anyone knows the laws on maybe purchasing a firearm when I am there and having it shipped back to the united states. Is it possible for them to sell a foreigner a firearm and is it legal to ship it back to the states? I would love to be able to get a good deal on a gun but i sure do not want to end up in a fillipino prison dancing to 80's music.

I'm no expert, but the first place to start would be federal ITAR laws, I believe.
My gut says the hassle/expense is going to far outweigh the couple hundred bucks you might save.

My wife is Filipino, and a fairly recent immigrant. I'll ask her... if she doesn't know, I can ask her parents.
On a side note, her Uncle is a multimillionaire (from the Aquino family, one of the Aquino's is the President of the Philippines) and one of the side businesses he owns is a security company.. which of course offers personal security services. Wife and I actually hire (uncle gives us) 2 men from his company that act as drivers/escorts/tour-guides. I think to purchase the services cost something like $50 American a day? Labor is extremely cheap over there.
Back on topic, unless you are a dual-citizen, I doubt that you can purchase a gun there. From what I understand, purchasing a firearm as a PI citizen can be strenuous... I bet as a foreigner it would be more difficult. I'll get back to you shortly.
Also.... if you are curious of places to avoid and/or go to, let me know. I can get up to date info on that too.

Hiring personal security might be your best bet. Are you a dual citizen?
here are some links I found that might help:
http://www.gunpolicy.org/firearms/region/philippines" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.pbdionisio.com/philippine-firearm-law/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (this is a gun website, scroll down for the laws [PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 1866])
I will ask my family when I get the chance. Oh, and don't buy this gun either - it's Manny Pacquiao's 1911:
