I love Leatherman multi-tools knives. I owned the wave and now the surge. I consider it as "ambiguous personal defensive weapon". Anyone use it for personal defense?

My son does. Carries it in a mag. pouch.

No, I carry a folder that I can open with one hand.

Good job.

Don't use a leatherman but have a similar Gerber multi-tool. Never thought of using it for self defense but the nylon case makes an excellent mag pouch for concealed carry. I carry Glock mags in my Gerber pouch attached to my belt. I figured that most would just assume that it was a multi-tool and not a magazine.

The only Leatherman tool I own is a MUT (an AR rifle/carbine platform mulit-tool). I suppose I could threaten you with the bronze carbon scraper on it.....or maybe threaten a "purple nurple" with the pliers.

FWIW, some of the Leatherman tools include a blade that can be opened w one hand. Believe the Wave is one of them.

Interesting. I have two multitools and neither would be easy or quick to open. I'll carry them as a tool when needed, but do not consider them part of my daily carry.

My folder is in my left pocket every day.

I carry a Gerber multi-tool everyday (right next to my maglite). I also have a one-handed folding knife clipped in the pocket right there. I can't imagine trying to use the multi-tool for self defense - it is just too clunky and difficult to open. Besides, if I really need self defense and didn't have my gun on me, the knife would be my choice - it is handy and easy to open.

Without giving up a lot - you should carry a Zebra F-402 or F-701 ink pen.

I sometimes carry my Leatherman as a secondary defensive knife, but I pretty much always have a "proper" knife with me (except in CA, because fixed-blade knives are illegal there unless they're not concealed, and I figure that my shirt tail would completely cover mine and I don't want to push my luck).

I've carried an original Leatherman multi-tool for about 20 years. Handiest thing I keep on me. Don't think even the very sharp blade would make it that good of a defense weapon.

I don't think mine would either, but it'd be better than nothing.

Right...as long as we're given time to unsheath it, time to pick the apporopriate blade and knew our assailant's next move beforehand. It wouldn't hurt if our assailant was a parapalegic too. :smilelol5:
