started today paperwork, and setting the class, will keep track of all cost from start to plastic in hand. if anyone can think of cost i might of missed, input would be great thanks in advanced.

Gun: $900 <SR1911> got others but this is one im taking

gas: ?unknown at this time?

Where are you taking a class that costs $175? That is WAY high.

And you don't need 3 boxes of ammo for the class, unless you are including practice ammo. 50 rounds for the class, if you are good.

Was gonna say... Didn't see any beef jerky on that list. $175 does sound high unless perhaps it's a custom/reduced size class etc. Depending on the class/range agreement, there might also be a range/facility fee.

If you don't already have ear/eye protection that'll be an incremental cost, sounds like you may already have that covered though.

Not necessarily part of the cost, but certainly related...Gotta holster already? Gotta drawer full of 'em?

yeah price was higher than most i saw, but it was close, and it includes range fees, targets, and a few other things. wasn't too worried, and the three boxes of ammo, yeah i know only one required, but they said practice and im not about to turn down a chance to shoot
food, yeah how could i forget that....hmm does that count celebrating dinner?

Plan on a couple different holsters for different situations, and then after trying to conceal a 1911 for a few days you will think better of it and spend another $475 for something more manageable. Do you have gun cleaning supplies?

The class is really $175? They had better serve filets for lunch.

I paid $69 for my class +$15 range fee. I only needed to bring 50 rounds ($11.99 at walmart)

That better be a great class for that amount.

Gun retal: $20 (wanted to shoot the XD before buying one )
Ammo: $11.99 (9mm)
Fingerprints: $9.95
Passport photos: $9.95
[Pre-paid legal service] coverage: $139.50 for 14 months

Total $403.39. Actually I spent $806.78 because we both got our CHL's.

I then bought my XD40 for $400, so for me only it'd be $803.39. Although it's comforting knowing that I have another tool for protecting my family

I found the ranges fees to be rather high. Although that is an ongoing cost and by my choice. I believe if I am going to carry that I should practice as well.

Listing [Pre-paid legal service] coverage as a "cost" of getting your CHL is misleading. No such coverage is required to have a CHL, so I don't think it should be counted as such. Just my .02.

You don't have to buy holsters, fanny packs, extra ammunition, practice time at the range or lunch in order to get the CHL, but they are all a good idea. If he didn't have the CHL, he wouldn't feel the need to buy the insurance.

True, what you say is very true, but I've found the cost of having my CHL far exceeds the initial cost. However, it is very worth it.

It can get expensive but I find it to be worth it, I spend a lot of money on other recreational things that I won't get anything in return for, I can't put a price on the day I may need it.

as with any hobby i would never want to add up how much ive spent on my gun stuff.
