Venting about Renewal Class !!

Sorry but I have to vent if only to inform others to please check out the renewal class before you arrive.

#1 Class was so long- including a 20 min. drive to and from the class it was door to door 8 hrs.
I assume the breaks, test, 1hr. plus ridiculous practice shooting in class with his laser tag device from 3', drive time to the range, range setup, paperwork fill out, etc. = Not counted

#2 People at range given extra time due to malfunctions they couldn't clear. Class would stand down, instructor clears weapon, we wait while the participant shots again- happened quite a bit. One older guy couldn't load his mag due to arthritic hand but not a problem- they loaded his for him. No advice on maybe he should be shooting a different weapon (revolver??)

#3 Instructor knew that one student's husband was DPS officer, one's son was SWAT but continued to blast law enforcement until the wife finally said enough and I guess he finally got it. (When seconds count, police are only minutes away, called 911 and it took them 25 mins to respond- she asked if rural or urban and he didn't even know)

#4 Classroom info: We all know or I think most of us do about what we might need brushing up on after years between classes. He spent his time instead talking about such silly things like ineffectiveness of hollow points and other controversial things. How much you can drink and still carry your weapon. Why you shouldn't help anyone being attacked- just take notes and call 911 (my previous experience in a CHL class did cover some great examples of the looks can be deceiving thing but his example was a plain all out assault)

Ok- Thanks for letting me vent !! I feel better now

Not going to name instructor but was in East TX. The guy was just one of those types that shouldn't be teaching but did have passion for concealed carry.

I will tell you that my other class that was great was the Bullet Trap in Plano. Those guys did a great job but that was years ago so not sure about current experiences.

I'm in East Texas and now have my curiosity going. At least give us a city.

Side note- my wife took her renewal class in Longview at a pawn shop that sells safes. Forgot the name but it's close to 80 and High St.

She said it was fantastic. Very informative and a great refresher course. Due to timing I opted for the other I mentioned above and I think that is also a possible source of my kicking myself the entire day I wasted.

"Somebody" should build an "Angie's List" type web site for CHL classes. My TX CHL class was also awful. I'll come here for a referral when it's time to renew, but, I bet you could make some money running a CHL review web site and selling ad's to manufacturers and related products companies.

It's funny that you mentioned a review site for CHL classes. That is the reason I was on here as a first time member. I was looking for some site that had coments or reviews but found none so just vented here. LOL

You start one and I'll be your first post :hurry:

If anyone decides to open an instructor "Angie's List," don't post it here. That's an invitation to a lawsuit.

Chas.

What makes CHL instructors different than college professors, licensed HVAC companies, restaurants and others that are subject to HONEST customer reviews?

This is your site so you can make any rules you want but a forum rule against outing bad instructors is different than a lawyer saying, "That's an invitation to a lawsuit." Are CHL instructors legally different than other businesses, or do Angie's List and similar rating sites generally invite lawsuits, regardless of the type of service provider being rated?
I'm genuinely curious. Thanks. :tiphat:
