The San Gabriel River Trail ( Good Water Loop ) is a 26 mile rugged trail winding through dense Juniper Forest, Hardwood Bottomlands, and Prairie Grasslands . The trail extends completely around Georgetown Lake via the dam. Careful planning is encouraged before going for a hike. Remember, your safety is your responsibility!

Trail Rules

Horses, off-road vehicles, and motorcycles are prohibited.
Dogs must remain on leash 6 feet or less and under control. All waste must be properly removed from the trail.
Camp in designated areas only. These areas are Cedar Hollow, Sawyer, Walnut, and Tejas Camp.
Ground fires are prohibited. Use fire rings which were constructed for that purpose.
Tree cutting is prohibited. Use only wood that is found on the ground.
Please pack out trash. Trash cans are located at each trailhead.
The taking of plants, animals, rocks, fossils, artifacts and other items is prohibited and punishable under federal laws and regulations by fines up to $250,000.
Endangered Golden-cheeked Warblers are in the area from February to August. During this time and during hunts, please reduce noise and remain on the trail.
The Crockett Garden Spring and Falls is an environmentally sensitive area, do not bathe or wade in the spring stream or slide down the falls.

A hike and bike trail goes through San Gabriel park, including a one-mile loop in the park and other segments that connect to Blue Hole Park, Rivery Park, and all the way to Lake Georgetown.

Biking is allowed on the entire Goodwater Loop trail. Caution is advised, the area extending from Tejas camp east toward the Headquarters (mile marker 11 towards the Project Office) is extremely rugged. Proper protective clothing, ample water, and first aid supplies are advised. Please let someone know if you are biking and carry your cell phone for protection.

And practice throwing your cell phone accurately at the bad guy or dangerous animal ... try to get it going at least 1,000 feet per second accurately ...
A cell phone, like a camera, never ever "protected" anyone ... except once maybe the phone or camera acted like a bulletproof vest plate... so carry a huge call phone... or maybe a Kevlar Laptop with a MagicJack might afford more protection since it's larger ... or a large suitcase filled with concrete ....


I'd LOVE to see those in real life someday, 100 year old oaks, rivers where a person could kayak or fish n stuff, they are 25 miles from me, I could almost ride my bike there ...but the US Army prohibits going to SOME city/county parks, although if the city/county which maintains it owned it, they couldn't.

If you are there FOR the school event, it is off limits to you, but if am walking through the park, I can carry without worry.

Much like the Houston Zoo is OK to carry, even if a school group is there. If you are not with them, carry away.

Charles Cotton argues here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=38722&hilit=school+event#p462625" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; that in order to be off-limits, the "school event" must be located on school property. Though he admits there is no case law either way.

There is no case law on point.

That said, I believe it is clear that the activity grounds must be school property. You cannot read any part of a statute out of context and the phrase "any grounds or building on which . . ." appears in a sentence that clearly refers to school property. Further evidence is the provision that allows a school to authorize the carrying of firearms in such places and schools would have such authority only on property it owns.

For example: if a school has a field trip/school sponsored activity, field trip to the State Capitol, the rules don't change and the CHL express lane doesn't become the weapons confiscation line ...

Might be more complicated technically/legally if you are a parent chaperone of the field trip to the Capitol and go through the CHL express lane and a school teacher or parent complains later ... but you'd probably still get to use the express lane that day ... may have problems later though after getting home from the "school police" or local police dropping by the house for a visit.... at which time if asked by a teacher/parent etc (not under oath) if I had been armed on the school trip to the Capitol ... I might not answer.

Solution: Don't volunteer to be a parent chaperone

Moral: I'm not attending a school activity if I go to the Capitol/Zoo and a kid in school happens to be there too.
(My layman's opinion)
