Install another holster in an easy-to-reach but not obvious place, and transfer your weapon to it when you get into the vehicle. G-Code makes some modular rigs that can be bolted in, attached to Molle loops, thigh rigs, etc. I have one waiting for a review at home, unfortunately I haven't gotten to see it yet
My original plan for my Miata was to attach a holster on the passenger side of the tranny tunnel with a flap of (matching) carpet to cover and camouflage it. Unfortunately I never got around to it.
On-body carry is always going to be a little awkward in a vehicle.

I'm a lefty and carry IWB at about 8:30 so the seat belt doesn't hinder my access as much. I do have a Crossbreed Ohai Modular I have yet to mount. With velcro you can experiment with different positions and use it in different vehicles/locations if the need arises.

I'm right handed and the seatbelt doesn't interfere with a holster just past the hip. If I gained 30 pounds it might be a problem but I'm in decent shape.

Here's a place in Austin that makes vehicle holsters.

I've been considering installing somthing similar in my truck on the console to the right of my knee/leg.
Do folks fabricate a cover of some sort out of carpet, cloth, or a leather boot ?
I looked at the vendor's web site provided above but didn't find any pics with covers on the mounted holsters. One would assume it would need to be covered.

...a piece of terrycloth towel with velcro sewed on the edges would attach over the holster and be ripped off if necessary...

Great link on the Austin place. Have been looking for something better than putting it in the door cup holder.
