Armed robbery at store caught on tape:

(1/24/07 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - Police want to know if you recognize a suspect caught on surveillance camera during a store robbery.

It happened at the Valero Stop-and-Go store on Meadowglen around 6:30am Tuesday. The robber and what police are calling his lookout at the door got away, but not before beating the clerk.

Police released pictures of two customers who were in the store at the time of the incident. Police want to talk to them to get a better description of the robbers.

If you know anything about this incident, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers

Its a very good quality video that caught my eye. If the clerk had been paying attention he had at least one opportunity to make a move as the thug jumped the counter.

Yes & before that the guy cam in w/ the gun at arms length. Enough time to respond if the clerk had been armed even w/ a cane.

Saw that too. Wonder if the Police that want to talk to them ab out a description might wonder why they did not run to the back or hide somewhere.
I dont know anyone that has been in enough armed roberies for them to become common place & old hat.

People are often stunned and have no idea what to do.

Once at a department store an electrician was doing some wiring on a lighted display case and came into contact some metal that was shorted against a live wire. It caused his muscles to constrict and grab the case, where he then stood paralyzed by the electricity.

Everyone, and I mean everyone else stood around while I picked up a wooden broom and pushed him off of the case.

srsly, you are completely right. most folk just stand there with that stupified look on their face.
but to not stick around and give testimony and/or be a good witness makes me sick.

Robber set himself up for an easy disarm on at least two occasions.

A "trained" person could have ended this quickly. Of course, I don't recommend fighting back unless you feel your life is in danger, but anytime someone "jacks you up" (shoves gun into your face/neck) you know they're not playing around.

Jason, Kinney, Tom, this is the real life scenario for the technique you guys practiced involving the outside wrist flex and disarm. Plenty of time in this case to assimilate what was happening and act. Robber almost immediately turns his attention and focus to the cash register (bad for him).

This robbery is also a good example (IMO) of how quickly you can be assaulted and find yourself under the gun. If circumstances were such that the first sign of danger was the BG coming over the counter, then going for your weapon might not be the best thing to do initially. I hope we made that point clear at the seminar.

Naturally, every situation will be different, and everyone needs to use their best judgment, but this guy was wide open.

Glad there was nothing more than a "beating" involved this time.

What you say is true. Many on this forum could probably disarm the robber, but this clerk may not be trained to do so. If I was in his place
and I didn't have a gun I could get to I woud have done nothing to stop him. If the clerk had tried to use a cane or club and failed he probably
would have been shot. As it turned out he was ok.

There again as you said, it's a judgement case. We will say what we would do in a certain situation but we never know untill we are facewith it.

This does get me really upset when its an unarmed person.
Have any of you seen the video of the pizzaria place where some black lady cuts in line then gets all in one guys face.

Then her enormous boyfriend comes in and begins to pummel the guy.

There were maybe 5 or 6 cowards in there who just stood and watched or completely ignored it.

I just couldnt have done that, im no where near the size of that girls BF, but i couldnt just stand there and watch. I woulda had to do something.

I've seen that video. I got super irritated watching that. I wish that guy had a CHL so he could shoot him. I don't care if that guy is unarmed if he was beating me down like that I'd shoot him in a heartbeat.

What is bad about getting involved in something like this is that every one that throws a punch is likely to be going to jail and at court time no witnesses to be found.

Wow! I think some Fox OC would have worked well in that situation. The guy that was being beat could have been killed. The guy giving him the beating was huge. I don't usually carry my Fox with me, I leave it in my car. I may think about tossing it in a pocket now. You do have to remember that you don't owe anyone in there anything and that if you do get involved it could lead to a court date! Which none of us want to get involved in. But with that said I don't think I could stand there and watch someone get beat to a pulp. I think OC might at least put a non lethal stop to the situation.
