new credit union sign

#1

Post by FuziDave »

my credit union used to have a questionable 30.06 sign (letters were 1/4 inch tall & no spanish version).

recently they changed it to this.
New gunbuster sign
New gunbuster sign
so now they directly mention CHL but make the sign even less enforceable.

Which credit union is that? I just want to make sure that I don't do business with them.

had a valid 30.06 sign but font too small, changed to one even less enforceable

that had to be on purpose, possibly some CHL pointed it out to some anti-gun employee that the old one was non-compliant and a pro-gun manager or sign-putter-upper put up a new one to pacify the employee who was anti who was being vocal about the CHL who talked too much

I mean if they had correct wording in the first place ... then intentionally changed to a gunbuster ...
with the new "gun free zone" wording ... who uses that term other than CHLs/pro-gun persons and people who saw the video?

I mean terminology differences ... like Campus Carry supporters say "campus carry" and antis say "guns on campus" .... gun-free zone to me indicates someone who put up the sign intended to allow CHLs in but pacify the antis

:iagree:

Funny too that they used a white circle instead of a red one and (had to enlarge to read it but) new language used states a 30.05 trespass threat which gives a CHL a defense.
Too many Pro-CHL moves from one sign to the other to be coincidence imho.

30.05 CRIMINAL TRESPASS
(f) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that:

(1) the basis on which entry on the property or land or in the building was forbidden is that entry with a handgun was forbidden; and

(2) the person was carrying a concealed handgun and a license issued under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, to carry a concealed handgun of the same category the person was carrying.

They took down a 30.06 and put this up, and you don't want to do business with them? Maybe if we all weite enough letters, we can get them to tear down this abominable sign and put the 30.06 back.

While this sign is certainly "better" (in that it's not enforceable) than a 30.06 sign, I would much rather do business with bank/credit union that didn't put up ANY "no gun" sign whether it's 30.06 or not.

There is of course the argument that the big bold "GUN FREE ZONE" part of the sign is interpreted by bank robbers and other criminals as an EASY VICTIM ZONE, thus that could be a logical reason to avoid the premises as well.

@ RPB - I was gonna post the FoxNews GunFreeZone video too, but you beat me to it.

I wonder if a criminal who gets shot by a CHL in a gunbuster "gun free zone" could sue the establishment for false advertisement .... hey the sign said criminal safe zone/EASY VICTIM ZONE...

Another negative aspect of posting signs like this, even such non-enforceable ones, is that they further the "guns are bad" mentality that we continue to fight. The greatest enemy of gun rights is the negative view of guns that an impressionable society is constantly exposed to. This credit union is just furthering that negative view.

The greatest enemy of my gun rights is a sign that prohibits me from legal carry, much like the one that the credit union removed. Guns shows are supposed to be all about gun rights, but they refuse my right to protect myself when I'm there. I'd rather go to a coop grocery on South Congress Avenue that has a sign that says, "Melt guns to make bicycles!" as long as they don't refuse my right to legally carry a weapon to protect myself and my family in their establishment.

But the signs are just the manifestation of the anti-gun attitude. If society had a more positive attitude toward guns, 30.06 may not even exist.

...when I see an unenforceable sign of any description...I feel sorry for the poor store manager who's been hounded by corporate to "get those signs up" even though he knows it'll cost him money in Texas...I know how hard he had to look to find some that looked big, bad, and hairy enough to satisfy the regional manager when he comes by...and yet not alienate his friends and neighbors who are loyal customers...and CHL holders...he knows we're all smart enough to ignore the signs...he's glad to see us as usual...but he's lookin' kinda haggard from jumpin' through corporate's hoops(or his anti-gun wife's, if he's a sole owner) and I don't bring up a sore subject with him...I get what I went for, his sales stay up...he keeps his job, I save my gas...and noone's harmed...that's the way I choose to see it...works for me...
