recently they changed it to this.
so now they directly mention CHL but make the sign even less enforceable.

30.05 CRIMINAL TRESPASS
(f) It is a defense to prosecution under this section that:
(1) the basis on which entry on the property or land or in the building was forbidden is that entry with a handgun was forbidden; and
(2) the person was carrying a concealed handgun and a license issued under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, to carry a concealed handgun of the same category the person was carrying.
They took down a 30.06 and put this up, and you don't want to do business with them? Maybe if we all weite enough letters, we can get them to tear down this abominable sign and put the 30.06 back.RottenApple wrote:Which credit union is that? I just want to make sure that I don't do business with them.
While this sign is certainly "better" (in that it's not enforceable) than a 30.06 sign, I would much rather do business with bank/credit union that didn't put up ANY "no gun" sign whether it's 30.06 or not.Embalmo wrote:They took down a 30.06 and put this up, and you don't want to do business with them? I wonder if a criminal who gets shot by a CHL in a gunbuster "gun free zone" could sue the establishment for false advertisement .... hey the sign said criminal safe zone/EASY VICTIM ZONE...A-R wrote:RottenApple wrote:While this sign is certainly "better" (in that it's not enforceable) than a 30.06 sign, I would much rather do business with bank/credit union that didn't put up ANY "no gun" sign whether it's 30.06 or not.Embalmo wrote:They took down a 30.06 and put this up, and you don't want to do business with them? There is of course the argument that the big bold "GUN FREE ZONE" part of the sign is interpreted by bank robbers and other criminals as an EASY VICTIM ZONE, thus that could be a logical reason to avoid the premises as well.
@ RPB - I was gonna post the FoxNews GunFreeZone video too, but you beat me to it.
The greatest enemy of my gun rights is a sign that prohibits me from legal carry, much like the one that the credit union removed. Guns shows are supposed to be all about gun rights, but they refuse my right to protect myself when I'm there. I'd rather go to a coop grocery on South Congress Avenue that has a sign that says, "Melt guns to make bicycles!" as long as they don't refuse my right to legally carry a weapon to protect myself and my family in their establishment.MasterOfNone wrote:Another negative aspect of posting signs like this, even such non-enforceable ones, is that they further the "guns are bad" mentality that we continue to fight. The greatest enemy of gun rights is the negative view of guns that an impressionable society is constantly exposed to. This credit union is just furthering that negative view.
But the signs are just the manifestation of the anti-gun attitude. If society had a more positive attitude toward guns, 30.06 may not even exist.Embalmo wrote:The greatest enemy of my gun rights is a sign that prohibits me from legal carry, much like the one that the credit union removed.
