Congratulations to them for making the right decision!
I'm amazed at the lame "reasoning" of those who dissented.... judging from the comments of readers so far, they don't buy into their silly ideas either.

Wonderful news. It's a shame about all those county employees who are going to wind up slaughtered like sheep, the first time someone doesn't get the coffee/creamer/sugar mix just right for some gun-crazy CHL holder employee, though...

Reading the article and some of the comments in quotes makes me wonder what planet these citizens are living on.

Sorry - As a newbie, I am confused.
Asked seriously: What is novel about this?
Per state of Texas law, are not county employees already permitted to effect a Texas CHL -- other than in state prohibited defined locals [schools, 30.06 sites, court buildings, jails, etc.]?
While it is favorable that the county commissioners court publicly affirms the state laws, have I missed something so obvious that I am asking this question.

While the *public* can come into gov buildings w their CHL firearm, local government entities have still been allowed to bar their employees from exercising the same right. No criminal charges, but you can be disciplined or fired from your public sector job.

I have a relative who works for Montgomery county. I will have to ask her about this and make sure she knows! Cool!

Like any other employer they could have a policy stating that employees are not allowed to carry weapons while working. It wouldn't be a criminal offense if it doesn't meet the requirements of 30.06 but it would be justification for firing. The council affirmed that they are allowed to carry.

This is just awesome.
I wish my employer would wise up. We don't have much if any chance of being robbed, but we do have some disgruntled ex-employees and some folks with some questionable spouses, boyfriends, and girlfriends.

The story behind the aprova; for CHL holders is kinda funny.
Some panty wetting department heads went to the county commisioners court to beg them to make clear the rules that guns shouldn't be allowed. They were shocked when on a 3 to 2 vote they aproved legal carry for their employees.
This same sort of thing happened when the panty wetters attempted to boycott the Starbucks. It backfired. Its looking like a trend. The grabbers have turned Starbucks into a poster child for the RKBA, and Montgomery County Department heads have helped make strides for our side. I hope they contue with the great work.
