Harris County Administration Building

I had to go renew a couple of vehicle registrations today. I wasn't sure about the status of the Administration Building, so I left my weapon in my desk at my office... But, when there I asked the lady at the counter as I was paying for my tags. She said she thought concealed carry wasn't allowed in the building but suggested I ask the officer at the desk near the entry. The officer said concealed carry was not allowed in any of the county buildings. This doesn't seem consistent with the various statutes I've read, i.e. I don't think there are courtrooms in the building, it wasn't a polling place on election day, etc. There are no 30.06 signs posted on the building. So, what's the deal? Legal to carry or not? The walk to and from the building from my office passes by a couple of areas frequented by "less than savory" characters...

I wonder how you would find out if it was legal??? It doesn't like the officer knew and if no signage was posted I guess I don't understand.

Well, if you are talkinbg about the building at 1001 Preston, then there are courts in there. The Commisioners and Constitutional courts are in that building. May be others.

As for the Officer, he was incorrect. As long as there are no other restrictions (courts, secure jail, etc.) then they cannot prohibit licensed concealed carry in a county building.
