For the last few years, When ever my family would get together the conversation would inevitably turn to to the worsening economy, society, and such. My family all knows I carry and a couple years ago I convinced my aunt and uncle to get their permits. They are both Ar. and Texas resident and have permits for both states. My sister and her husband live in Houston and I have convinced them to at least own a gun and they now have a few in the home. My brother lives in Lincoln Ne. and has a couple hunting rifles and shotguns and does not understand why I need to carry everywhere I go.
Yesterday was my mothers 76th birthday. I called to wish her a happy birthday and during our conversation she tells me "guess what"? "Your dad and I just finished a 7 hour class to get our carry permits. And I bought a .38 revolver". Dad already had a .380
They live in a pretty safe area just north of Eureka Springs Ar. but it is reassuring to know that they are taking steps to protect themselves.
We have also talked at length about laying in enough food and water to last 3 months and they are working towards it.

It's never too late! My youngest daughter just received her plastic last week. My wife who, while not against me carrying, never quite understood has also taken the class and is applying for her CHL. I just patiently waited as she viewed reports of all the crimes against women and home invasion increase. Also prayed a lot! Now I have to find a SW M&P 9mm compact for a reasonable price for my daughter. I have a Model 60 SW that my wife likes although she qualified with Semi-auto.

Someone on the board corrected me about this. The statics show the country is not more danferous as crime rates are actually decreasing. I carry because I don't want to be a statistic. Statistics are no protection when dealing with a predator.

I visited Eureka Springs a few years ago. Touring a ridge with an eclectic mix of homes and gardens we had to stop for a gang crossing. A gang of 22 deer leisurely strolling down the hill crossing the road. I saw more deer in 5 minutes than in 52 years. Congrats on the new CHLs! My wife is wanting her's as soon is mine is final.

From what I can gather, you are correct and incorrect. Correct in that OVERALL our country is less violent than it used to be...and incorrect in the fact that SOME AREAS are much MORE violent than they used to be...and unfortunately, you cannot account for when that will boil over and randomly insert itself into YOUR daily life. Like was said above, it is about doing your best to NOT be a statistic.

But rabid skunks in our small town are at a record high, snakes are more plentiful since there's a drought ... (crime stats only show crime) so it's more dangerous than it was a few years back

FYI - if she qualifies with a semi-auto she can carry either semi-auto or revolver. If a person qualifies with a revolver they are stuck carrying a revolver. So she is good to go with the Model 60

That is how I read that at first too, but I think he means his wife likes the gun for the gun.

Is this even legal? I'm pretty sure one cannot have a drivers license from two different states. Can one be legal residents of two different states and have resident licenses for a CHL in each state?

Yeah, I wondered about the dual state citizenship also.
However! It is great that they decided to take that step. I met a constable today who is 91 years old (and he does look it). He is going to retire after this stint as he does not want to run for re-election again. People like these give me a lot of hope for my own future.

By the general FBI statistics and similar sources my chances of being involved in a violent crime hover around 1-1.5%. Both my wife and I have exceeded those probabilities on more than on occasion. We still consider our chances of being victims very low, BUT we are prepared if we cross that line between statistic and reality ever again.

My aunt and Uncle own homes in both states. Not sure if they have a non resident permit from AR or what but I know they have Texas plates on their cars Texas Drivers licenses but they spend most of their time at their home in Arkansas, mainly because my parents are there.
