5 YEARS IS UP!

#1

Post by PocketGroove »

Hey everyone,

It's been a timely wait, but making mistakes and learning from them is what it means to be human. The wisest of men learn from other people's mistakes and books, and they are saved much hardship.

...I was never that type. Always had to learn the hard way. Always thought I was smarter than the average bear.

It's officially been over 5 years since my "Class 1 Misdemeanor" DWI in the state of Virginia. In 8 days, it will officially be 5 years from my trial. My CHL class is complete (thanks Greybeard at DCSA!), my paperwork is done, but I do have one question before I lick the stamp.

Am i required to send in a "disposition of arrest" from Virginia with the rest of my paperwork, or will the state inherently pull that up when running my background check? I disclosed it on my application and it's been over 5 years so I know it can't hurt me, but I would like to get EVERYTHING right the FIRST time...y'all know what I mean.

I have to admit the online application is quite vague in regards to sending this paperwork with the rest of the required paperwork on the checklist. When you fill out the portion about past arrests...etc.etc., after entering the information, it briefly mentions documentation is needed, but that is the only time I recall the application process touching on this matter. I know I'm asking the right people since this forum has some much great information, and so little of the typical gun forum nonsense. Any help in getting it right the first time is greatly appreciated.

Many Advanced Thanks

DPS will want to know the final disposition of your DWI arrest. I don't know if it's absolutely required to send documentation, but I figure it can only speed up your processing if DPS doesn't have to contact someone in Virginia who may take their sweet time replying. ;-)

having the disposition will help get your CHL processed.
they may hold up processing while they send you a letter asking for it.

I concur, give supporting evidence of everything. It took 6 months to process mine because of a discrepancy with my record in California. I had a misdemeanor which California has no record of. I listed it with out checking first; :banghead:, they couldn't confirm it. I had to request a very specific letter from California stating what was on my record...
