Illinois last state with no concealed carry

#1

Post by Kythas »

Looks like Illinois is soon to stand alone as the only state with no form of legal concealed carry.

I'll bet there's all sorts of illegal concealed carry, especially in the Chicago area.

Illegal carry in Chicago? That can't happen. It's against the law...

It's true that Illinois has no law on the books permitting non-LEO citizens to carry weapons (concealed or otherwise).

Back in the 1970s local law enforcement handed out part-time deputy commissions to their buddies like Halloween candy. This was effectively a concealed-carry and Batman license. The state clamped down on that practice after quite a few embarrassments, including egregious drunk-driving and road-rage incidents.

Meanwhile some downstate sheriffs and police chiefs have publicly stated that their officers will ignore citizens who are otherwise sober and legal carrying weapons.

Many other states have some kind of license on the books, which are all but impossible to get. I heard a few years ago that exactly one person had a Hawaii concealed-carry license, and he was a police armorer. Washington, DC, has no licensing. Puerto Rico, New York, and Maryland have laws on the books, but getting a license is practically impossible.

Has Wisconin's Gov signed the bill yet? The handgun law site still shows Wisconsin to be a "right denied " state.

In the AP article, it says he has stated he'll sign it after the 4th. :tiphat:

Wisconsin is a done deal. The governor is supposed to sign the bill July 8.

I don't know why he is making political theater out of the signing. I don't care.

The law will go into effect in November. I don't know when reciprocity agreements will be announced, if ever.

Wisconsin's law requires license holders to be 21, so don't be surprised if they refuse to acknowledge Texas CHLs.

I tend to not recognize or travel in states that don't recognize my Texas CHL; the same as spending money in stores that won't accept me as I am...armed.

I'm sure they'll be devastated. ;-)

Wisconsin has always been an open-carry state, and outside Milwaukee and Madison they tend to have relaxed attitudes.

That said, you could live a long and deeply fulfilled life without ever setting foot in Wisconsin. Back in the 1980s some state agency came up with bumper stickers that said, "Escape to Wisconson." Some residents responded by printing stickers that said "Escape from Wisconsin."

Hidden Numbers--

The Count of CHLer's only counts the holders.
Most are probably familys, SO !!! Multiply by say 2 to 4 and the
one CHLer is taking the FAMILY to ANOTHER mall, etc..

Grapevine Mills is sending a LOT of customers to the other malls. CHLer's are PROVEN to be NO PROBLEM for years!
Sending GOOD customers to your competition is a mighty strange way to run a business.

At 1/2 million CHLers on record, the effect is well over 1 million. Business and Voting, etc.

(Being good citizens probably a higher % vote too ! with family members who vote !)

I won't make any new friends around here for saying so, but boycotts work only when they are carefully managed and publicized with a core of supporters that appeal to the popular imagination.

The Montgomery bus boycott is the classic example in American social life.

Many if not most businesses excluded blacks as customers and employees for a century without missing a beat—that's 10% of the population. They legally could and did exclude disabled people until around 1990. Some still make it difficult and occasionally are sued for excluding service animals or trying to force wheelchair users into impossible situations.

Grapevine, Katy, (or whatever—how many of these pits are there?) Mills Mall will not miss 1 or 2 percent of the population. They have enough people throwing money at them to buy overpriced foreign-made trash.

Hawaii, Puerto Rico, New York, Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago are among the biggest tourist destinations in the world. You can't carry a weapon in any of them. Boston even bans pepper spray.

I don't boycott to change their policy. I boycott to be free of their policy. Anything more is gravy.

You're right. Wisconsin not recognizing my Texas CHL is one thing, I also have this thing about yankees.

Yankees come from east of the Hudson River. We've been over this before. ;-)

Most of the people in Wisconsin are descended from Germans or Scandinavians, with somewhat fewer Africans, American Indians, and Asians than average for the U.S.
