Theft prevention devices outing me?
I don't know why it is but I set off the theft prevention deals at Wally world, and other stores with these devices. I left my crackberry in the truck in case that was it. But the TCP seems to be the culprit. I always tell them it went off when I came in and no one gives me any grief but it sure is annoying.

Hasn't ever happened to me, and I always have a cell phone and firearm.
There must be another reason.

You might check your clothes and accessories to see if a tag didn't get cut out or deactivated. The RFID chips are tiny and can be put in something as small as the washing instructions tag.

That's a good place to start if it only happens occasionally and there's a consistent clothing item you're wearing on each of those occasions.Hoi Polloi wrote:You might check your clothes and accessories to see if a tag didn't get cut out or deactivated. If it happens all the time, look at the recently purchased things that are with you all the time - wallet, shoes, belt, cell phone pouch, hat, jacket, etc. Then change all those things and go back - if you don't set off the theft alerts, try the items one by one until you find the offending item. If you can't find the device in it, bring it back to the store where you got it and ask them to deactivate the tag.

I once was in a Home Depot when a guy set off the detector. They finally determined it was his work boots that he had purchased recently and the tag was not deactivated. She deactivated it for him and said she sees that problem often.
BTW they were Red Wings and the tag is manufactured some where deep in the boot and impossible to get out with out tearing up the boot.

I had a jacket doing that. The security tag was in a pocket on the inside of the jacket. It drove me nuts for a while before I found it.Excaliber wrote:That's a good place to start if it only happens occasionally and there's a consistent clothing item you're wearing on each of those occasions.Hoi Polloi wrote:You might check your clothes and accessories to see if a tag didn't get cut out or deactivated. All I had was a pair o sneakers, shorts and a tshirt. Other times it's a pair of hiking boots, jeans and a tshirt. And no it's not the same shirt.

I've recently had the same problem. The only store that I would set it off at was CVS though, nowhere else. I got a new wallet for Christmas and was recently looking for somthing in it when I found a very small TPD left in one of the pockets. Threw it out and no more problems.

If the alarm goes off when you walk through naked, it's the top secret NSA implant setting it off.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

That would be funny. I haven't pulled a good April Fool's joke in a long time. My daughter gets me every year for 3 years now. She always wakes up early and removes the shampoo, body soap, and scrubby things out of the shower. I never remember before getting soaking wet.psijac wrote:I want to get a bunch of those little stickers and hide them on my friend for April fools
BTW, I have never had one out me yet.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

I set off the Home Depot detector regularly, probably with my scooter, which I am only using temporarily, and I work there.PappaGun wrote:I once was in a Home Depot when a guy set off the detector. Re: Theft prevention devices outing me?
Concealed carry guns can't set off those theft detection alarms. They aren't metal detectors. They scan for radio-frequency ID tags that haven't been deactivated, so it's not your gun.
