Hello to all. I apologize in advance if this is a repeated question, but cannot find a answer to this question that I feel comfortable with.

I am getting ready to apply online and schedule my CHL class.

My question is I was born abroad to US Citizens. I do have a Certification of Report of Birth form DS-1350. Do I make a copy of this document and send it with my CHL packet or do I need to complete an additional form? I have found where several people have had extended waiting times because of this.

Any help is appreciated.

I was filling out papers ... can't recall if it was my chl app or what ...

There was a discrepancy; book said send in birth cert, application left that off the list of what to send in ... I got copies, but forgot to enclose them when going over the list on the app ... got approved anyway, I guess they looked at voter ID card and Social security card or driver's license or something else since birth cert wasn't asked for on the app list, even though it said it's needed in the book ... I recall talking to the lady on phone, they said no problem, not needed ...

Like I said, could have been for something else, but compare the book with the list that's with the application.

I signed up online, they mailed a packet I took to a class, where I was fingerprinted and photod, then got it all together by the list of stuff to send in, and mailed it ... got home, saw my birth certificate wasn't sent, looked at the list from the packet ... they didn't ask on that list.

I dunno how the new online stuff works, I did post office old fashioned way as the new stuff didn't exist back then.


Other than that ... I dunno, someone will though.

I was in the same situation...do you have a passport? If so that will work - that is what I did.

I too was born out of Country. I sent in both a copy of my current passport and my Certificate of Naturalization, just to be sure.

My understanding was that the passport would fill the requirement for proof of citizenship.

I called the CHL unit at DPS and asked if I would have any trouble with my application, having been born abroad myself. The man with whom I spoke asked if I had a passport. I replied that I do, so he said that a photocopy of the first page (the one with your photo and pertinent data) would suffice. I included such a photocopy and had my license in hand a month after submitting my paperwork. If you don't have a passport then I'm sure a State Department Certification of Birth (form DS-1350) or equivalent would be acceptable.

Certificate of birth abroad is sufficient to prove citizenship. Just make a copy and include it with your application.

What about a certification of live birth? It can get you the presidency.
