Good afternoon and Happy New Year everyone!
I will be taking my 16 year old daughter to see the Styx concert this coming Friday at the Arena Theater in Houston. The area of town (Sharpstown) isn't one of your best (I remember going to that mall in the 80's a a teen...my how times have changed) and I was wondering if anyone knew if the arena itself was a 'no-gun' zone and/or posted 30.06.
There is a parkign garage(with paid parking) so parking will be controlled somewhat, but if I could carry my LCP with me, I'd of course feel a little more secure.
Any first hand knowledge would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Last time I was there was in the 1970s? (right after it was built, whenever that was ... the "Theater in the Round") to see the Smothers Brothers... My dad took mom to see Gladys Knight or Aretha Franklin I think.
Wish I knew if it was posted, but thanks for mentioning the place for the memories, I thought it was gone years ago. We always called it "Theater in the Round"... I recognized it after trying to look it up for you.

Don't know of it's posted, please let us know what you find out.
I lived in that area many years ago, I would not go near that place without a firearm or an armed escort.

Does anyone have an update on this? I am headed there tonight, and would like to be prepared.
(I searched the Texas3006.com web site, but did not find the Arena Theater listed there).

From the Arena Theater's web site:
"Warnings
THE HOLDER OF AN ARENA THEATRE TICKET VOLUNTARILY ASSUMES ALL RISK AND DANGER OF PERSONAL INJURY (INCLUDING DEATH) AND ALL HAZARDS ARISING FROM, OR RELATED IN ANY WAY TO, THE EVENT, WHETHER OCCURRING PRIOR TO, DURING OR AFTER THE EVENT HOWSOEVER CAUSED AND WHETHER BY NEGLIGENCE OR OTHERWISE. THE HOLDER AGREES THAT ARENA THEATRE (AND ITS AGENTS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES) IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INJURIES RESULTING FROM SUCH CAUSES.
NOTIFY AN USHER, SECURITY PERSONNEL OR POLICE OFFICE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU NEED ANY TYPE OF ASSISTANCE."
This is not comforting...

That part of Houston and safety assurances? Ok. I'll give you my famous 30-30 guarantee. It's bullet-proof: Your safety is assured for 30 feet or 30 seconds whichever occurs first. Good luck after that!

Update: Arena Theater is posted 51% at the theater (not building) entrance doors AND has two metal detectors through which everyone must pass.

A 51% sign there is puzzling. Is a call to TACB in order to clarify?

yea I would think so, they do if I remember sell drinks inside but don't know if they qualify for the 51%

It wouldn't surprise me if they're 51%; their drink prices ($7.50 for a beer, $8.50 for a mixed drink) are ridiculous!

don't mean to bring up an old threat but updating
Arena theater has 51% signage posted at theater entrances and bar (pretty much the whole place). Security = empty pockets with pat down then metal detector (not sure if active)

This kind of nonsense needs to be cleared up by the Legislature. Even if they sell a bunch of drinks at a concert, I would still bet that their overall ticket sales outweigh their alcohol sales. Only the bar areas of places like this should be posted.
