With the State Fair of Texas coming soon.

Has anyone heard if the rules were changed from last year? Knew they were taking information down on CHL holders.

On their web site says under FAQs. what can I bring it states:

...a gun? No, with one exception.
A person holding a valid concealed handgun license is permitted to enter onto State Fair property with his/her concealed handgun. Handguns will not be permitted inside the Cotton Bowl, a facility defined under Texas Penal Code 46.035 as "the premises where a high school, collegiate or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place." We want the Fair to be a fun and safe experience.

I don't know if this is different than what it said last year. I think the problem was those going last year did not know there was going to be a requirement to proivde your CHL info. When we went last year I did not show my license at the gate and the "security" wander didn't find my gun or two extra magazines on my belt. We walked right in.

I'm going to wait to go to see how it's handled this year.

I won't go to the fair unarmed under any circustances.

You stand a good chance of not getting wanded if you go on the weekend, due to the crowds. Last year they seemed a bit overwhelmed and only wanded every 3rd or so person. I was about to get wanded by a young guy so I pulled my phone out of my pocket and held it up as if that's all I had, and he waved me on.

This year I think I'll print that FAQ page and take it with me just in case I get wanded. Might help get through the "ordeal" faster.

Not sure how I missed this thread when it was active but......
I believe the wording (FAQ) and policy change from the State Fair was largely due to the actions of
many of the members of this forum. The topic was briefly discussed on radio, politicians were contacted,
letters and emails were sent to the appropriate parties, DPS was contacted etc etc. The pot got stirred
just enough.
Just to be sure, I think I'll wait until the more adventuresome have issued positive reports on this years
CHL treatment prior to deciding whether to attend the Fair.

If you plan to go with family and don't want your entrance seen, that's easy enough to orchestrate. Tell them you'll meet them at Big Tex or whatever other landmark inside the park at a particular time.

I recommend parking in the official lots and paying the extra money for them. The official satellite lots have tram service and the trams are packed with people coming and going. You're not going to be in dark secluded areas by yourself that way. It still isn't a grand part of town and caution should definitely be taken, but it isn't the same as wandering down dark alleyways trying to find your car parked up next to some stranger's house. You can also park cities away and take the DART which now stops at the front entrance of the fair.

Yeah I'm wondering how it will be handled. If you show your CHL and tell them you're armed, will they just wave you through?

About the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I had my .45 in a shoulder rig. They wanded up to my belt, I showed my keys and change and went on in.

Handguns will not be permitted inside the Cotton Bowl
What does this limit a visitor to, or from? Having never been to this event or this venue.,, I don’t have any context for what I would be missing out on?
