I was having a discussion with some of my good friends about having some guns around the house. The idea that I threw out there is that I wanted to put some guns around the house in key areas of defense in my house. Places that would give me cover in the house in case the Tango was able to get some shoots off. They would be hidden and there are no children in the home so I'm really not that worried about putting locks on them. Do y'all think that this a bad idea or does it need some work? I would thankful for the feedback.

I remember a jewlery store owner that had been robbed & when he realized he had only one rd left after the fight, he did it 7 it pd off at a later date. Another robbery & he needed a New York reload. Seems like I remember it being 2 other guns used in that one.

Anyone of you search gurus remember it.????

I don't have my CHL yet (I turn 21 this month) but carry on my belt while I'm at home. At night it's on my nightstand and my shotgun's next to the bed.

I think putting guns around the house, kids or not, is irresponsible. Guests or invaders could happen upon them. I'm not worried about guests so much as invaders, simply because our friends are gun educated and know that if there's a firearm in our house, it is LOADED (even if it's not).

I can't shake the thought of a home invader shooting me with my own gun because I inadvertently armed him with it by leaving it in a "strategic" location.

I'm thinking more of a scenario in which, say, you're asleep or in your bedroom. An intruder is pillaging through your stuff and finds a gun. Now they're armed (if they weren't before) and you have no idea until they barge into the bedroom.

Yes, I would not only suggest good battle guns (15+ round guns equipped with a streamlight) at key locations, but ideally guns with interchangeable magazine... and some spare loaded mags at other key locations. This one one gun jams, you can go to the next one using same mags or vice-verse. This is what I have done in my home...ALONG with the pocket gun that hopefully will let me fight till I get to the battle guns.

Unless you owned your own bussiness and had a lot of cash on hand I don't see the need. Carry on you at home if you want and have a shotgun ready to go. I freind is an FFL and he has them all over his house in secure lock boxes because he has 5 full size safes worth of various firearms. He always has a gun on him!!!

I'm not paranoid enough to leave a "bunch of guns" laying around, however, every handgun I own is LOADED and in 2 different safes, or on my hip. I have often thought of leaving a hidden gun at the other end of the house, in fact, I almost bought another pistol safe last week for that purpose. I think it is a great tactical move. I love small safes mounted in different spots, ( I hate unsecured firearms).

Helpful hint maybe, muscle memory is key to most stressful situations. That's why all my safes have a digital keypad. Every key pad I deal with, ie: home alarm, safes, boat barn gate, storage, etc. is the same number as my debit pin number. Think about it, if you have one, do you even really need to see the pad to punch in your number? That's muscle memory! I can and have punched that number in the dark, right hand , left hand, reaching through a fence and hitting the numbers backwards. Just something to think about rather than leaving guns laying around.

Back to your original question, the more guns the merrier!

Well I dont have that many guns but Im either in my computer room or the living room and bedroom. I always have a gun within reach.

BTW, might point out that ours are not laying around in plain sight. They are inside of other objects...ie, a wall clock in once case. My concern is of a home invasion scenerio. In which case you are in an urban combat situation.

How about just placing loaded magazines around the house? This is much cheaper and unless the intruder has the same gun they won't be of any use to them. This is also a much safer alternative for those with little ones.

Okay let me first clear up some missing infomation from the above stated scenario that we have been discussing. The three guns that I want strategically placed in defensive places of the home that are in biometric gunsafes. The wife and I don't always want to carry in our own home. This is not the Middle East or anything like that. I want to place guns in those spots of the house were if the wife or myself heard someone breaking in, we would be able to go to that safe and pull out a pistol and four high cap mags to engage the Intruder if need be. They will be ready to go and I don't want to have to worry about loading the mag and racking the slide. It is easy to say that one pistol will should suffice but then again your inexperience will grant you a meeting with Mr. Murphy, who always seems to show up at the wrong time. You could always have a jam or malfuction with the pistol that your carrying but it is comforting to know that there is a help close by. I don't think it is paranoid but just being prepared to deal with the countless situations that could arrive is comforting.

Every room of our house has a pistol hidden in it. We keep the alarm set,
so a BG won't have time to look for them if i'm home.

If i'm not home the police can deal with them.


ps I also keep 1 on me wherever i'm at.
