Vegas reciprocity?

I'll be going to vegas at the end of the month. From what I can tell Nevada is a no go for TX CHL but wanted to double check in case my info was outdated or incorrect. Links to .gov or state.nv.us sites would be appreciated.

There is no Vegas reciprocity for Texas CHL holders.

Nevada, as has been brought up, does not honor the TX CHL. However, I believe NV is an open carry state, with an allowance that if you are in Clark County for more than 60 days, you must register all firearms with either the city or the county. I am too tired to look up the statute right now. As is my understanding, casinos are off limits, insofar as carrying goes. I was there last month, and the only person I saw OC'ing was an employee at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. Yes, I saw it on the History Channel, and had to go there. It was a fairly holster-worn looking full sized Government Model. Made my heart swell. I always assumed most of those cats were packing concealed. Lotsa' cash around and such.

ATXGun,

I sent you a PM as well.

I to am going to Vegas the end of this month and have been reading up on anything and anything concerning carry there. Yes, CC is out unless you have a permit from a state they honor, but I really looked into open carry. I've never done it before, other than mowing the lawn, but from what I've been reading, it is perfectly legal to open carry anywhere in the strip, including the casinos. Now, since I've never open carried before, I had to go buy a Serpa holster because all my CC rigs don't have any retention on them. But I'll have the option to OC in NM and AZ on my way over there...I'm driving with the family in tow.

I still haven't decided yet on wether I will do it or not. It's a bit of an internal struggle becuase I may be hassled by the hotels and I'm sorta there on company time.

Why turn your trip into an experiment in how nice cops in another state are towards people who pen carry? You can CC through New Mexico (no back-up though) and Arizona, but then you'll have to leave it in the hotel room when you get there. I wouldn't do it plain and simple. Why be the test case on your vacation/work trip? Can you imagine calling your boss or whomever you are there for and telling them you couldn't get whatever done because you were in jail? Even if it is bull and you didn't break any laws is mute once they found out you still decided to draw attention to yourself.

Maybe other opinions are different but I really think you should just not worry about it.

Greg, half of me agrees with you. No, I don't want to draw too much attention to myself becuase I don't have the time to sit in jail and have it all sorted out. But the other half of me is 100% PATRIOT, and frankly it's that part that longs to be a true American and exercise the God-given rights that we have.

It is a ballancing game right now, and I feel like I'm just in a phase of having to ask myself some penetrating questions I shouldn't have to face. It is what it is, but I'm an idealist I guess.

I hear what you are saying tho.

:iagree:

You have to pick your battles. Discretion is the better part of valor. All that good stuff.

I'm not familiar with NM law (haven't been there since I started CCW. No backup, as in licensed for a single handgun?

On another note, the last time I was in a state that allowed OC, I actually took my retention rigs with me and intended to do the OC thing. I guess I'm not much of an activist because once I got there and had the ability (and was even with folks who were supportive of the idea)...I just didn't bother...I have comfortable methods of CC, and I'd have to completely rethink an all-day OC setup. Maybe someday.

New Mexico is a one gun state. You can only conceal carry one gun on your person at any time.

Yes, but you can have more than one in your vehicle (including the one that's on your person). Of course, the usual disclaimer applies (do your own research, blah blah blah).

Isn't there another thread about a guy in Vegas with a permit that was shot outside of Costco?

I think "shot" may be putting it mildly? The truth will out.

Several points:

1. Nevada does not honor Texas CHL. :nono:

2. Nevada and OC .... Nevada does not have a law that grants the right to OC...
rather they have no law against it .... translated - LEO's (Vegas) can easily arrest
for disturbing the peace or other similar charges should they decide to. :banghead:

3. Northern Nevada is more gun friendly. :thumbs2:

4. Beside the norm (schools, Fed buildings, etc.) the only other place you can not CC
is where there are metal detectors .... translated - casinos are OK but in most casinos if
discovered you will be asked to leave but you have broken no law if you have Nevada CWP.
(Concealed is Concealed)

Suggestion ---- leave gun locked up .... to HOT to be thrown down on pavement & cuffed.
