The un-Amreican Spaceman ("newspaper") here in Austin has an article today about metal detectors are now at the Capitol. Will they stop me if I try to enter with my CHL and handgun??? Just wondering.

No, you will enter through the much shorter/faster employee line and when an employee swipes their employee badge, you'll swipe your CHL.

I also read in Alice Tripp's article about the metal detectors on the TSRA website that the House and Senate galleries will no longer be 30.06 posted when the legislature is in session. That will be a great improvement.

Yes, all four entrances will have metal detectors and each will have employee lines that will be used by CHL's.

Perhaps, and although understable, its still a shame we have to resort to the metal detectors. There will be a fight in the legislature to keep CHLers out of our state house all together.It isn't over yet.

When we swipe our CHL are we logged in to a database? I am glad we have a way to get around a possible "issue" but if I am being registered because I have a CHL I do have a problem. Who has access to this log? Is the info purged after each entry or kept thru the visit or day or permanently stored? I am sure this is just added to the employee data they use for payroll and security and is kept mostly unsecured as far as who can access it as an employee. Limit the info collected to the CHL holders name and purge the info daily and I think this would improve chances the info will not be useful to criminals.

I am encouraged this was done and thankful we won’t be exposed by some new screener. I just want to make sure the info cannot be used against one of us.

I am a bit surprised. I wasn't even aware there was a mag-strip on the back of my CHL. That does make me wonder what information is encoded there and what happens to that information after it's been swiped. (I presume the same information is on the stripe as is printed on the front of the license.)

I just read the Barnicle (Chronicle) article and to say I'm not shocked they mostly interviewed people who are anti-gun would be an understatement. The comments are good though.
