Gun in locked car at school if a teacher
Can a person, who legally possesses a Texas CHL, carry a pistol in the glove box of his/her locked car at a Church-School where they work (as a teacher). I know you can if you are visiting, but I believe if you work there they you are prohibited. Again, locked in the vehicle in the center console box.
Thanks

What's company policy as described in the employee handbook?

Legally, yes. You will not get arrested for it.oldboyshooter wrote:Can a person, who legally possesses a Texas CHL, carry a pistol in the glove box of his/her locked car at a Church-School where they work (as a teacher). Can you be fired for it if they find out? Absolutely. In fact, I'd probably count on it.
IANAL, YMMV, ITEOTWAWKI and all that.

Legally? Yes, you can (as long as parking lot is not posted 30.06...even then, there is some debate). But if it's prohibited in your handbook, then you could be fired for it.

Yup. Keep it lock up in the car, and DON'T talk about anything gun related with anyone at work. Seems kinda extreme, but even casual gun or shooting range talk can get superiors suspicious.dicion wrote:

Do drug dogs also sniff for weapons (i.e. gun powder)? I know in High School it was pretty frequent that they ran the dogs through the parking lots. If I was a teacher, this would be my number one concern as I know I wouldn't tell anyone I have it locked in the car.

You can only be fired if it is in your policy book, although your principal may not know that. They usually contact HR for advice though, for any situation that comes up.

I do everyday as does my principal, superintendant, and at least one other teacher.
It is legal but refer to your employ handbook. Mine? No clue. Haven't seen one in years.
