Off limits? DOnt ever remember seeing anything it.

And if there is a game going on does that change anytyhing?

There were some posts about the Texas State Fair last year. The Fairgrounds are not posted (City owned property). However, I seem to recall that visitors were searched upon entry. I was told that CHLers had to declare at that point, but were allowed to carry. However, there are many school sponsored events as well as professional sporting events that complicate where and when you can carry on the grounds.

I've only been once since obtaining my CHL and I didn't carry.

Took my wife last year. We both carry. We had to declare at the gate. They took information off our CHL and allowed us entry. They were very nice and treated us well.

The only thing is you have to wait for a supervisor to come take your info. I waited about 30 minutes.

Not real keen on the idea of them having my information.

I understand that entry has become less and less of a hassle each year since they had to dump the '06 signage in 2003.

While inside the gates may not pose so much of a risk, I would certainly not want to be unarmed coming and going in some of the surrounding neighborhoods and "parking lots".

Yes, thats the problem. Many places where carry is prohibited are fairly safe in themselves. it is the problem with coming and going that makes me uncomfortable. I am also uncomfortable leaving a firearm in the car, even with a COM or similar safe. Especially bad with the limited storing options of trucks/SUV's.

Think about it: WHich is safer, a gun carried by a responsible CHL holder or one locked in a car in a schoolyard!

Sports events are another problem: here you have a car thiefs paradise - cars left with pretty much of an insurance that the owners wont be returning until the end of the game. Just what the enterprising car thief is looking for.

If restricting CHL's access is 'necessary' then a safe storage place needs to be provided.

Why do they need that information and what do they do with it after they have it?

Have to agree here. That a safe place needs to be proved for the safe keeping.

The Nth degree and the taking of information and the retention (end users) of that information is why I will not attend that event...

If they change their policy, I may reconsider...

Luckaly my grilfriends father and grandmother work there so we get the good parking and a golf cart ride in. :P

Was just making sure that I wasnt escorted into a 30.06 zone.

I don't agree that many places where carry is prohibited are fairly safe. I see "gun free zones" as potential massacre sites, places where people bent on commiting crimes know that they can do so without fear that an armed citizen will intervene - Grapevine Mills Mall is one of the best examples. GMM prohibits carry by CHL holders but cannot prevent criminals from carrying, and I do not see that as a safe environment.

The first year after the new law was passed my wife and I went down to the state fair, and the security guy that wanded me had already passed us, missing my .45ACP 1911 in the process, before I got a chance to declare that I was carrying. The last time we went we were going up the steps of the auto pavilion when a bunch of teenage kids came bursting out the doors, sweeping all from their path with no regard for who they were jostling or hurting. One of them shoved past me with an elbow and made contact with my .45 - the look on his face was priceless.

I fveel the same way about workplaces that deny CHL for "workplace safety" It seems to me that all they have done is guarantee that the disgruntled employee who decides to bring in a gun or two and shoot the place up has a chance to do so without worrying if the next cubicle will contain a CHL ready to respond.

And my wife works for a school district, and I worry about the chance that she will not have a chance to defend herself if it ever comes down to that.

On what basis can a mall prohibit licensed carry for the entire mall?

On the basis that they own the property and lease the space out.
