I Love My Job

#1

Post by AJ80 »

I work as a software developer for a large company.

Upon being hired, I searched the employee handbook many many times trying to find the weapons policy. It is nonexistent! No mention of weapons anywhere at all.

Is it more likely that it's just an oversight or that the owners are pro concealed carry?

My assumption, with this being a large company, is that it is not an oversight.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there to see what everyone else thinks about the nonexistent weapons policy.

I would never ever ever ever mention it, mention you are armed, or let anyone know you have a weapon.
Dont tell your HR guy, nothing. Keep, your, mouth, shut!

Otherwise awesome.
There was concerns about some break ins at my work.
I left the front door unlocked because I saw another employee walking up to the door.
Management comes to me and says "What if that was a Robber? If they come in here with a gun I'll send them to you?"
Me "Oh, because you know I have a gun?"
Them "What?"
Me "are you saying you want me to go get my gun from the car because you fear robbers?"
Mgmt "Nevermind"

That's great. Make sure not to talk gun stuff with
your peers, or bring up 30.06 issues.

Then decide in which pocket to carry your Ruger LCP
and backup mags to work.

With layoffs and troubled workers, any workplace could
become a crime scene.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't planning on mentioning it to anyone though. Well, other than the other person that carries that is(We both knew each other carried before getting jobs there anyway).

Funny though, guns do come up a lot in my cubical area, and I'm not even the one that starts those conversations.
I think it's a conspiracy, somehow they knew which people were interested in guns and strategically placed them all in one area. :eek6

I also work for a large corporation. After applying for my CHL I searched the employee handbook and code of conduct and never saw a single mention of their weapons policy. Then I did a search on the company intranet.

It was there as a separate policy which made it VERY plain that NO weapons of any kind (guns, knives, etc) were allowed on any of their premises.

The funny thing is, by strict interpretation I've been in violation for years simply because I carry a knife. Whodathunkit?

My company's weapons policy states "No weapons are permitted unless authorized". I asked my HR department what the "authorized" meant, and was told that if an employee has a State issued CHL valid in the State in which they are carrying a weapon, that is authorized.

Haha, Yea and it's very necessary for your line of work. Also, it doesn't incite panic like it would where I work.
