Advise - Motorcycles and CHL
Hey Everyone,
Need some advice. I am currently deployed, but have planned a long motorcycle ride this summer when I get home. I have already checked, and the states I'll be riding through honor Texas CHL licenses. Normally, I carry a Glock 27 at 6 o'clock in a Bianchi IWB holster. Does anyone have any advise on carrying on two wheels? I'll be logging over 1300 miles each way, and the idea of going "naked" doesn't sit well with me. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Dave

If you ride ATGATT , then the solution I have found is a balsitic nylon holsted cut duwn and reformed to fit in my jacket inside pocket. I can nwo CC in a like manor as you would with a ahoulder holster.
1 ZIP to "Clear" my garment and my hand slips in to a nice stable position on the grip. The draw is as smooth as it would be from any inside the jacket draw.. though it is from a slightly higher position then what it would be from a sholder rig. The holster also helps concel the gun when I am wearing a mesh jacket for summer riding (yes I wear full gear summer, winter, spring and FALL ... )
It works for me,

I ride and conceal regularly. However, i'm downsized in that I use a S&W 638 snub. simple nylon clip holster held IWB at about 1pm works VERY well. easy to get to even when seated on [my] bike. Stays in place and comfortable for long periods. not up against bone or similar in case of a crash and very concealed. maybe something to consider.

Zipped in a jacket pocket or in a safepacker clipped to the bike. I think if you're riding then you can protect yourself better with the throttle than the handgun in most cases. One advantage of the safepacker is you can put the safepacker on your belt when you get off the bike, and people will think it's contains your wallet, phone, etc.

I've mentioned before that I'll usually "carry" in a tank bag when riding. I've been considering going to IWB or OWB with a longer jacket. My current jacket is just waist length and would never conceal a weapon on my hip. Since I ride a sport bike I'm leaned over a bit and the jacket tends to ride up in the back. I still like the tank bag, though, because I can take my jacket off when I get there and still have my weapon with me. It's not the quickest draw from there, but still.

When I ride I use an IWB Comp-Tac Infidel for my Kahr CW9. I always wear an undershirt and an overshirt and have no problems concealing as long as I button up 2 or 3 buttons when in motion. I prefer to have my weapons on my person. But, I ride a standard (Suzuki VX 800) and a cruiser (Suzuki VS 1400). My riding position is upright. It's time to ride!

Re: Advise - Motorcycles and CHL
I ride everyday, and it can be tricky to carry depending on a number of things. When I am riding to work, I just use an IWB holster for a full-size pistol. A regular heavy jacket covers great and I am not traveling very far. The thing to worry about is a crash.
If you are going to tour, you have to think about long term comfort, safety, access and concealment. Shoulder holsters are great for concealment and comfort, but could pose a threat to you in an unintended dismount. A tank bag is the safest way to carry. I don't worry too much about a slow draw, as you can't shoot while riding anyway. What's more, between taking off your gloves, and unzipping your jacket, you are going to be a slow draw. A tank bag might actually be faster to access. You might want to practice accessing your gun with all your riding gear on. It is a lot slower than under different circumstances.
Where a tank bag can be a hassle is if you are doing a lot of stopping and starting. If you are getting off the bike every hour or so, you have to keep taking the bag with you. That can be a headache. Normally when I tour, I am heading for a destination and only stop for fuel. The tank bag works great because I don't leave the bike until I have arrived to where I am going. My advice is look to carry off your body in a secure bag of some sort. I hope you have a great trip. Nothing is better than packing the bike up for a cross country sprint!

Safepacker, fanny pack (I am old enough that nobody thinks anything of it and I can put everything in it). Don't have the maxpedition (yet ). When riding with normal temps, long windbreaker and owb.

Tankbag. I won't carry on my body while riding because I dress to fall and don't want to have a chunk of metal cushion my contact with the pavement.
If right handed, you can't shoot while riding and besides, the throttle will remove you from a dangerous situation much more quickly than trying to draw. Shooting from a moving bike is for movie stuntmen.
Tankbag is quick and easy access while at a gas stop. If I'm leaving the bike parked, I either take the tankbag with me, since it usually has electronics like radar detector. It's also easy to discretely slip the gun into your removed helmet and throw your gloves on top of it.
Belt carry also can easily expose the weapon if your overshirt or jacket ride up in the wind.
I've been shot at while riding and there was no way I was going to try and engage the knuckleheads, the only defense was nailing the throttle and rapidly leaving the area.

it's socially unacceptable to be ahead of your time.
